Twin Ports Stage is inspired by the memory of our friend, the late Professor Emeritus John D. Munsell, who led the University of Wisconsin-Superior Theatre department for nearly 35 years. We carry forward all that John taught us - respect for ourselves, our craft, our audience and our community. We are disciplined professionals who take great joy in our work, and we are dedicated to innovating, collaborating and finding new pathways to share with our colleagues and audiences. It's a grand adventure for all of us, and we're excited to get started.
We're working to build a home for our theatre company, as well as a much-needed multi-use community arts space in Superior, Wisconsin. The space will accomodate theatre, music, film, art shows, youth classes - and provide a venue for visiting arts and cultural activities.
While without a home base, we've been working since June of 2013 with our partners at Wisconsin Public Radio to produce an original live radio soap opera called "Twin Ports." We perform it at the Belknap Lounge in Superior and our audience has grown quickly. The attached video has some footage and photos of the radio show. The show reflects the quirky and wonderful place we call home here on Lake Superior.
Our immediate goal is to purchase a building in Superior as our company’s home. A suitable space has been found downtown and we are currently raising funds to purchase it. $200,000 is needed to purchase the building, and additionally we will need an estimated $600,000 to renovate the building and produce our first season of shows.
The downtown Superior streetscape has recently undergone a major upgrade, and we believe that Twin Ports Stage can be the centerpiece of new growth and revitalization for our downtown. City and business leaders strongly support our project. Help give us a chance to make a difference. We'll add your name to "The Wall of Karmic Glory!"
