About BabueBaby Carriers

BabueBaby Carriers are engineered by an occupational therapist to offload weight from the shoulders and evenly distribute it around the torso and hips. Our carriers are famous for their inclusivity: they fit for children and parents with special needs, adjust to almost every body size, and are super comfortable for both parent and child! They are handmade in Canada with love, out of 100% cotton. 

BabueBaby Carriers passed ASTM testing for Canada, USA, California, Washington, and Maine. The chemical, mechanical, and physical testing was passed with absolutely no fail.

Our community

We are here because of our community. There is an African concept of Ubuntu that can be translated as "I am because we are", or "humanity towards others". We believe in what we do and we can thrive only if our community thrives. That's why we always put our customers first.

Why Crowdfunding?

The company is at the market for 2 years, but this is the first time when we are crowdfunding for the new carrier! We want our community to be part of the production process and walk through all the stages with us. We are excited to apply our concept of full transparency to this project and show our customers how the carriers are made.  

It took us 8 years to perfect our new infant carrier design, it went through many trials, tests and focus groups. And now we are finally ready to share it with our community! 

A special thanks to Edmonton Down Syndrome Society who welcomed us anytime we needed to trial each prototype. It was through these focus groups that we ended up improving the headrest to accommodate children with involuntary movements.

1. Patented torso-support strap

Babuebaby Patented Torso Support Straps will offload the weight from the shoulders and transfer it to your torso and hips. From an Occupational Therapist standpoint having your weight evenly distributed throughout your torso ensures that you are protecting your shoulder joint from injury since the shoulder joint is not designed to weight bear as it is prone to injury.

The Torso Support Strap ensures the weight is evenly distributed without straining your back muscles or impacting blood flow to your shoulders. It also reduces lateral sway (side to side movements) when moving with a baby in the carrier. It helps keep all your energy inside the carrier structure thereby making your carrying experience very efficient. 

The Torso Support Strap also ensures that our kids with low trunk muscle tone have adequate torso supports which allows them to be worn with their trunks in neutral position.

2. Three points of support

• Primary: reinforced strap over hips
• Secondary: central strap above the bust
• Shoulder straps for stability

3. Waistband and panel adjustability 

Comfortable for both sitting and standing positions. Waistband is soft in the center to allow you to sit comfortably while wearing your baby. Firm on the sides to provide with stability as weight shifts from shoulders to hips to ensure pelvic and joint health.

4. Fabrics

Our fabric is biodegradable, ethically-sourced, 100% cotton, and consists of all-natural dyes. While the carriers are handmade in Canada, the cotton they are made of is grown and produced in Zimbabwe. We source fabrics from companies that hire locals, by supporting them we pay hormage to the culture that inspired the designs of the carriers.

Our mesh fabric is engineered for comfort from premium hydrophobic and hydrophilic fibers, meeting the demands of performance and quality tests, and is verified to create a cooling effect on the skin by quickly wicking moisture away. Made in USA. The 4 way stretch of the mesh fabric allows tight hold and fit and ensures there isn’t sagging or pulling on the wearer. 100% Free of PFOS, PFOA, lead, dioxins, heavy metals & BPA; free from phthalates: contains no DEHP, DBP, BBP, DINP, DIDP and DnOP. It is made using blend of Dri-Qwick fibers, which rapidly wicks moisture away from the body for stay dry comfort.

About the Founder

Like many parents, our founder Busi struggled to find a comfortable carrier as her children grew bigger. Having grown up in Zimbabwe and participating in babywearing from a young age, she knew first hand that women could carry their children all day, comfortably, while being fully engaged with their families. 

Using her skills as an Occupational Therapist, she set out to design a carrier that would mimic the way she had grown up seeing children carried in Africa: offloading weight away from the shoulders to the hips. Combining the adjustability of backpack-style buckle carriers with additional support, she found a way to combine ease of use with traditional weight distribution.
