Southern Comfort Animal Rescue hasn't added a story.
But now, SoCo Rescue needs help to continue it’s mission of saving as many dogs as it can. Recent misfortunes have placed SoCo in dire need of financial aid. Those misfortunes include lack of personnel to help with the daily operation and care of it’s dogs. The on-sight volunteer that assisted Scott Bennett recently moved, leaving only Scott to tend to the daily task at the rescue. This, of course, meant that Scott was unable to make the last planned trip to New Jersey to hold it’s monthly adoption event. These adoption events not only helped place a number of dogs into new, loving homes, 35 adoptions over the last three months alone, but it also greatly affected the funding that those adoptions brought in to SoCo. Thus, every penny that Scott could muster together was used to try and meet the monthly expenses. Even then, not all of the expenses were met, namely the electric bill, which comes due on Aug 21. Unless this bill is paid, the electricity at SoCo could be turned off. If this happens, then SoCo Rescue would have to try and find a place for all of it’s 50 dogs, including Scott’s personal dogs, to go. With no humane society in Wheeler Co and the closest shelter not accepting animals from Wheeler Co., this has left Scott in a bit of a quandary.
SoCo’s monthly expenses tally approximately $2,000. This includes a modest amount to pay a contracted worker to assist in the care and operation of SoCo when Scott leaves town. Other expenses include the property rent, power, insurances, vet expense for it’s dogs, telephone and internet services to seek adopters for it’s dogs. Scott Bennett has never received any compensation for his long hours of work that he puts in at SoCo Rescue. Scott does what he does simply because he loves those dogs and hopes to bring about a better life for them.
It’s been estimated that SoCo Rescue will need approx $5,000 to cover the expenses for the next two months. Scott and his volunteer staff are working diligently on a plan that would prevent SoCo from ever ending up in a similar position again, but know that even the best laid plans take time to materialize. Numerous fundraisers, such as the ones that Pampered Chef are holding during Aug, and their t-shirt sales, will help bring in funds in the future. Scott has already located an experienced worker that has a desire to join the SoCo team. But without funds, that person cannot start work.
Please find it in your heart to either make a donation to SoCo Rescue or participate in one of it’s ongoing fundraising efforts. Your generosity will help ensure that SoCo Rescue can continue it’s mission of saving as many dogs as it can.
