My friend, LaKisha Mitchell (aka Kisha) is an overcomer! She is one of the inspirations of my recent song and album, "Overcomer". I met Kisha when I was a student at Fisk University in Nashville, TN. I was a member of Greater Grace Temple Community Church and Kisha is married to Pastor Breonus Mitchell. We became friends as she was my church "first lady", hair stylist, and later background singer from 2007-2010. We continue to be great friends, but God called Kisha off of the road with me to focus more on her family and church.

In January 2013, Kisha told me that she was pregnant with her & Breonus' 2nd child. I screamed, hugged her and began crying tears of joy. Those tears quickly turned to tears of grief when she also shared that she recently felt a lump in her breast. A week later, she was diagnosed with breast cancer.

Kisha carried her unborn son through months of chemotherapy treatments and a double mastectomy surgery. I am happy to share that Brennon Michael Mitchell was born on June 8, 2013 perfectly healthy!

Because of her health, Kisha is no longer able to work. She continues to have additional chemo treatments and is scheduled to begin radiation soon. Her medical insurance did not include prenatal care and only covers a portion of the bills for her cancer treatments. Needless to say, this has put an enormous financial strain on her family.

I have been studying about the early church in Acts and have felt led to approach my brothers and sisters in Christ for help. Jesus said that people would know that we are His followers by how we love one another (John 13:35).

Will you please take a moment and pray for Kisha, Breonus, BJ, and Brennon? And while you do that, will you also pray about giving financially to help them with their medical bills? As you do, know that I am asking God to bless you with the great grace that is mentioned in Acts 4 ("Godronically", Greater Grace happens to be the name of the church Breonus Mitchell pastors!)

"Now the full number of those who believed were of one heart and soul, and no one said that any of the things that belonged to him was his own, but they had everything in common. And with great power the apostles were giving their testimony to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus, and great grace was upon them all. There was not a needy person among them, for as many as were owners of lands or houses sold them and brought the proceeds of what was sold and laid it at the apostles' feet, and it was distributed to each as any had need." Acts 4:32-35 (ESV)
