United Church in Walpole is seeking a compassionate and supportive Kids Ministry Learning Support Teacher to serve alongside Sunday School teachers, ensuring that all children—including those with Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) or other learning/behavioral needs—feel welcomed, included, and supported in our Kids Ministry program. This role is about creating a nurturing environment where every child can participate fully in worship and learning.
Essential Functions
- Provide in-class support for children in our Kids Ministry classrooms on Sunday mornings (typically our “Little Lights” class, ages 4–5).
- Build positive, encouraging relationships with children to help them feel safe, valued, and included.
- Offer individualized support so children with IEPs or special learning needs can participate meaningfully in lessons and activities.
- Communicate with parents/guardians and the Associate Pastor of Faith Formation to understand a child’s strengths, needs, and helpful strategies.
- Help foster an environment of belonging for all children in the classroom.
- Assist children with transitions, attention, or regulation needs using supportive strategies.
- Prepare for and calmly manage urgent or challenging situations.
- Consistently show up on time and be a welcoming presence for children and families.
- Follow all church safety policies and procedures.
