Story of 3 little boys!
This is a story of three little Ukrainian boys who are currently fighting for their lives.
As a volunteer I often see stories of sick kids in Ukraine, I
secretly follow them and hope for the best outcome. Unfortunately it’s
not always the case.
In those moments you feel so powerless-because a lot of times things could be different had those kids lived in a different county. I live in Canada and am truly blessed to know that if my children need medical attention I can simply take them to the hospital- and money being the last thing I have to worry about!
Ukraine is a very different story- medical system is struggling and children are often just sent home to die as doctors are unable/ don’t have the means to treat them. What would you do as a parent if you were told that your child will die....UNLESS! You take them outside of your country’s borders where there is a good possibility for treatment and life? Wouldn’t you do ANYTHING and EVERYTHING to give them a fighting chance? You would!
Well, that fighting chance comes with a hefty price tag. The price of child’s life! It can range from 30 to 250 thousands. But would that stop you?...
Now, I have been following stories of three little boys: Mathew (1.5 years) Tim (3 years) and Artem (2 years). I would like to share them with you, hoping that together we can help them and give them that fighting chance in life!
Mathew/Matviy - is actually from my hometown. His dad and I went to the same school and you have probably seen me sharing his story recently. Little Matviy has been diagnosed with leukemia at the beginning of June. Doctors in Ukraine didn’t give good prognosis and his parents looked elsewhere for solution. Within a week of getting the diagnosis they flew out to Israel where Matviy is undergoing chemo as we speak. Each day at that Israeli clinic costs approximately $1500! Matviy is expected to stay a minimum of 5 months... now do the math.
As it happens the second boy I want to tell you about is at the same Israeli clinic. He is 2 years old. Little Artem has been diagnosed with congenital acute lymphoblastic leukemia when he was only 10 months old! He has undergone chemo and bone marrow transplant but it wasn’t successful and cancer came back. His situation is critical and he is undergoing chemo again, with a hope that it can eventually lead to another bone marrow transplant...
Our third little hero is Tim (Timophiy). He is 3. He has a genetic disorder called Byler disease. It’s characterized by bile build up in the body leading to jaundice and immense itching. Poor Tim is in a constant state of itchiness with every part of his body affected by this. He is in a desperate need for a liver transplant as without it he will die. A clinic in Italy is willing to take him in and do the transplant, cost is €128,700.00. Timophiy’s mom is a single parent and obviously doesn’t have that kind of money.
Do you remember being a kid? What a fun time that was, full of wonder, laughter and adventures. Now imagine current childhood of our three boys. Constant needles, medical procedures, worried look in parents’ eyes, tears and frustrations, playtime within the walls of the hospitals and pain. Imagine those little arms and bodies full of catheters and tubing...
My heart breaks just thinking about those little angels and pain and suffering they have to go through. So lets make things a bit easier for them. We might not take the illness away or ease the pain, BUT we can make sure funds are there to continue with their treatment!
We, at Stream of Hopes always say- no donation is too small!
Every dollar counts. And in this case all funds you donate will be
split evenly among Matviy, Artem and Tim to help them in their fight!
