Dear Friends,
Every day is Valentine's day because my name is Laura Valentine! The great thing about having such a sweet last name is that all my friends, family, and acquaintenances have a "Valentine," by default.
I'm a Texan through and through, but have called Middle Tennessee home for the last 10 years. I moved to the Volunteer State to work at Penuel Ridge, a contemplative interfaith retreat center located just 30 minutes northwest of Nashville.
Penuel Ridge is more than a beautiful place to relax. Since 1984, Penuel Ridge has opened its doors to thousands of people seeking sacred space for rest and renewal. Did you know we do much more than that? We are environmentalists, managing 135 acres of Middle Tennessee wilderness in sustainable ways that do no harm to the land. We also provide services and retreat opportunities for homeless and formerly homless women and men. And finally, we offer reduced rates and/or scholarships for those who cannot afford the cost of retreat, such as students or people in crisis. This is where you can play an important role!
On September 23rd, I'll be celebrating my 56th birthday! There is no better gift to commemorate this day than your support of Penuel Ridge Retreat Center. Your gift will be used to help underwrite the cost of providing retreat opportunities for everyone. Examples of giving amounts and their purposes are illustrated below:
- $35…an overnight stay for an individual who cannot afford but deeply needs retreat
- $70…transportation for homeless and formerly homeless people to the Retreat Center
- $150…reintroduction of native trees, shrubs and plants to the landscape
- $360…a fair living wage for 6 homeless women and men through Work Dignity
- Of course, a donation of any amount is greatly appreciated.
Those of you who know me well, know how important Penuel Ridge has been to my well-being. One small way I can give back is by "donating" my birthday.
