Open Image Films hasn't added a story.
Open Image Films are a Derby, UK based film production company, run by husband and wife team Lloyd and Louise James. They have over 10 years of experience of making independant feature films. Their stories are original and fresh.
Our last feature film '10 Grams' http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HrJHHRnTx6A which was a self financed, micro budget movie, secured a global distribution deal on all platforms and will be released over the next few months initially in the US and Canada. This was an amazing achievement for all involved.
Our latest feature film 'The Journeyman' is an uplifting story of an underdog, and already has interest from a number of distributors in the UK and overseas.
We are pleased to announce that Bruce Jones will be joining our cast. Bruce has starred in a number of feature films including 'The Full Monty', 'Raining Stones' and 'Twenty Four Seven'. He became a household name in the UK playing Les Battersby in Coronation Street.
Why THE JOURNEYMAN?
DEFINITION:
"A Journeyman is a boxer who will stand as an opponent for young, up and coming prospects. A Journeyman does not have any expectations of winning his fights".
A middle aged widower, who has barely been existing since the death of his wife 7 years ago, realises he needs to straighten himself out.
After visiting his doctor, John Wilson is told to radically change his lifestyle. A local boxing champion, forced into early retirement through injury, and wanting to give something back to his community, runs a fighting fit course at his gym to help people get healthy.
John Wilson attends the courses and starts to get himself fit. It is at this time that his niece is diagnosed with a brain tumour. John needs to raise funds to help cover the costs of living expenses abroad, whilst his niece receives Proton Beam Therapy.
John convinces the champion boxer to coach him and to help him gain a boxing license and turn pro, so he can offer himself as a human punchbag in the ring to inexperienced boxers from across the country, and raise the necessary funds.
Set back after set back, he is finally granted a professional boxing license and with the help of a publicist he manages to set up fights across the country, raising awareness and money for his cause.
As he works his way across the country his story begins to gather momentum with press and media coverage.
Although the story is centred around boxing, it isn't necessarily a boxing story, its a story about love, family and sacrifice. It also highlights the plight of many UK families who have to raise funds to cover living costs whilst a family member receives Proton Beam Therapy abroad. Proton Beam Therapy should be available in the UK in 2018, however we should have had a centre in the UK in 2014.
The story is not full of doom and gloom, there are some comical moments mixed in with pathos, much like life in general.
Inspiration?
We feel the inspiration for 'The Journeyman' lies within classics like 'It's a wonderful life' and 'A matter of life and death'. The boxing movie inspirations come from 'Cinderella Man'.
Lloyd James, our lead actor has gained over 3 stone in weight to take his weight to 18 stone. He intends to shed around 7 stone by the end of the film. This shows how passionate he is about the project and it is method acting at its extreme plus it is a real labor of love considering he is a 48 year old bloke!
What We Need
We have got together a great cast and crew, who are an extremely talented bunch of people. They are passionate about the story and the film but in order for us to get the best production value for the film we need funds.
'The Journeyman' feature film is the largest production that we have done so far. We require studio space for settings such as an Intensive Care Unit of a hospital, and an arena with a boxing ring where the lead characters fights take place, as well as a number of props for the settings. The cost of the above will be quite substantial.
We will also require extra insurance for the fighting scenes as well as medical cover from paramedics during the filming of the fight scenes, just in case there is a stray punch that results in one of the cast members in the scene being knocked out or if one of the crew members is knocked out, trying to get close to the action.
We are in negotiations with a number of boxers, both current and retired to appear in cameo roles in the feature.
We have the services of a former professional boxing referee, Paul Thomas who will also be appearing in the film as a member of the British Boxing Board of Control.
The Impact
As we have stated before we have 3 distributors interested in our feature film. One in America, another in Europe and another in the UK, so the completed feature has a chance of global release.
The film highlights the plight of many UK families who have to raise funds to cover living costs whilst a family member receives Proton Beam Therapy abroad.
Before the main character turns to boxing to raise funds for his sick niece, he organises a sponsored head shave and also a benefit concert held in his home town, featuring local bands. We, as a production company decided that instead of staging these 2 events purely for the film, we would organise them for real, film them and use some of the footage for the feature. Any money raised through these 2 events will be donated to a Derbyshire based brain tumour charity called Frazers House Brain Tumour Foundation. Details can be found at http://www.frazershouse.co.uk/
Furthest From The Sea, East Midlands Music, Arts and Comedy collective http://www.furthestfromthesea.co.uk/ are organising the benefit concert for us.
The film will also give the opportunity for our cast and crew to showcase their talents on a global scale. It will also be an opportunity for groups and artists from Furthest From The Sea to showcase their music and songs. Open Image Films are a fledgling global brand in low budget film making.
