The Arc Knox County hasn't added a story.
What we do.
Our Mission:
The Arc Knox County is a nonprofit organization that is committed to providing programs and services for people with intellectual disabilities in Knox County; safeguarding their rights and protecting their welfare; and helping each individual achieve the highest possible level of personal growth and independence.
What we've done.
The Arc Knox County is a private, nonprofit agency, founded in 1953 with the express purpose of serving Knoxville area citizens with intellectual disabilities. It is affiliated with both the National Arc and the Tennessee Arc. The Arc Knox County is and has always been concerned about the right of all persons with disabilities to participate in programs and receive services as needed to achieve maximum personal, social, educational and vocational development. It is our belief that if appropriate programs are available, every individual with an intellectual disability can learn and grow, reaching increasing levels of self-fulfillment. This is a lifetime process that begins at birth and extends throughout a person’s life. Additionally, the Arc Knox County has been instrumental in educating the community with respect to those it serves and has worked to change the stereotypes so often associated with these individuals.
Here is a recent success story about one of our individuals finding employment in the community:
We recently had one of our individuals complete their 90-day probation period satisfactorily at UT Services as a Custodian. This job was their desired employment outcome, and he was given a raise this month. He is working completely independently without a Job Coach and gets to work on public transportation now. |
How funds will be used.
Enabling Technology is an innovative way to support people within their home, around their community, and at their work to become more self-sufficient using various off-the-shelf and customized devices, person-centered methods, and remote support technology solutions. Enabling Technology is defined as equipment and/or methodologies that, alone or in combination with associated technologies, provide the means to support individuals’ increased independence in their homes, communities, and/or workplaces. When utilized in a person-centered manner, these technologies have a substantial influence on how Long-Term Services and Supports (LTSS) can assist people with intellectual and developmental disabilities in a more natural, non-segregated environment in order to promote independence, personal development, and additional opportunities for self-determination. |

Team & Group Fundraising
In recent years we have seen events have great success with team
fundraising. There are various ways to
promote team fundraising.
Toss Your Boss: Nominate a willing “Boss” to rappel if employees
rally to raise a designated amount
of money. If the Boss DOESN’T
want to rappel, he/she can match the funds raised and nominate
another employee to rappel in his/her place.
Corporate Teams: Recruit individuals to represent a company by
joining the “team” that will rappel
for Over the Edge.
Group Fundraising and Team Strategies:
Create teams to fundraise to either send one person or groups of
people over the edge.
Create incentive levels that staff & groups will be rewarded with along the way
-reach a certain level and the “Boss” rappels as Spiderman, hit the next level, staff get to a VIP party to watch the rappel.
Get the company more involved by offering sponsorship level
incentives for levels raised or matched by the company.
