Animal Rescue Network of New England hasn't added a story.
This is Jasper; he was surrendered to ARNNE in 2014 after his mom passed from cancer. Jasper had a tough time getting adopted because he wasn’t a fan of many people as he hadn’t met many. We knew it was going to take a special someone to be his mommy….he met an incredible mommy but sadly, in 2015 she also passed from cancer.
Jasper lost all he knew for the SECOND time, it was heart breaking for the family when they had to return him. Due to caring for elders in the home, it was safest for Jasper and the family that he came back to ARNNE.
Now, fast forward – Jasper again needs a new family; we find this incredible mommy and daddy that want to adopt him; we were beyond excited for him. He hadn’t been feeling good, come to find out, he had “Cushing’s Disease”……. Seriously, most don’t want to adopt a dog that has health concerns BUT he hit the jackpot – he found a family that said, “We will take him as is and love him forever” and WOW, just like that, he was going to live an amazing life with a family again. They knew his medical treatment alone was $250 a month, before even seeing the vets. Amazing family, truly.
Fast forward a little, Jasper had been having difficulty walking on his paw, after several vet visits, a biopsy was done and he himself was diagnosed with cancer in March. :( Tough news to hear but his parents didn’t give up hope or faith.
The pain for Jasper progressed, his family began to carry him in baby swaddles everywhere they could to eliminate his pain. His pain continued, his family thought they were going to have to put him to sleep—they said that they “couldn’t put a dog to sleep that wagged his tail at us and loves to eat” and that if the cancer didn’t spread, they owed him a chance to live”
The vets have since determined that Jasper could be an amputee candidate, this week he successfully had his leg amputated and is doing so well. His family loves him so much that the thought of losing him wasn’t an option. Jasper was a fighter and they would fight for him.
His biopsy testing, blood work, scans etc. was over $1,600 and his Amputee surgery was $2,400; which doesn’t include any follow up surgeries on any future care. These costs are in addition to his Cushing’s disease care he under goes.
Jaspers family did right by him, giving him the BEST life, and an opportunity to LIVE. Most dogs don’t get that choice.
As Jaspers family stood by him, we too are. We need financial assistance with Jaspers medical care. We now ask that you please donate anything you can to help him and to continue to keep him and his family in your thoughts.
