Animal Resource Center hasn't added a story.
The Animal Resource Center (ARC) is registered through the IRS as a 501(c)3 non-profit organization. We are a very small group of volunteers who adopt cats to loving homes, provide feline behavior consultations, and promote education for a happy home with pets and people. We are a no-kill organization located in mid-Michigan and operate via foster homes.
In June, 2015 we saw a Facebook post requesting help for a cat who had been hit by a car. ARC stepped up to offer help and arranged transport. Upon receiving the cat, we observed that he had head trauma (bleeding from nasal passages and eye), difficulting breathing and was lethargic. We authorized overnight care at an emergency clinic so he could receive immediate evalutation (exam, x-rays, blood test), pain medications, and stabilization (IV catheter, fluids, and antibiotics).
The following day he was transported to the Laingsburg Animal Hospital (LAH). During the intial exam, this sweet, small cat purred and kneaded is paws non-stop!! There must have been some pain from being hit by a car and with all that trauma, yet it was if he was showing his gratitude for being brought to safety and care. Everyone who met him fell in love!
The next day he was stable enough for a more thorough exam. Both veterinarians diagnosed a break in his maxilla (roof of mouth). Luckily, it seems to be a clean break so no surgery is advised at this time! The repair is estimated to take a couple of months.
His eye trauma seems to be cuts to his lid and no lasting damage to his actual eyeball. However, the area still has sufficient trauma that we are waiting for it to calm down and a further evaluation. Likewise with the nasal passages. Time will tell how his nasal passages were impacted after the swelling subsides. This is estimated to take a few weeks.
He was neutered while under anesthesia during the exam.
Named Kahr by veterinary staff, he is resting comfortably in isolation in a foster home with on-going pain management and antibiotics.
Between the emergency clinic and the subsequent treatments, neutering and board, costs are $600 (emergency clinic) and $400 (LAH) for a total of $1000.
You may also contribute to helping Kahr by contacting the veterinary clinic via phone 517-651-977 or mail a donation to :

Remember to put "Kahr" or "ARC" in the memo.
We know that the love and care now given to Kahr will heal him physically and emotionally. We will assure that when recovered, he will find a loving home.
Thank you all very much. Without your help we would not be able to help emergencies such as this or the day to day care of our adoptable and sanctuary pets.
