ZEKE WAS born with a birth defect where his front left leg did not develop the muscle mass and strength his right leg did; it also appears that his place in the womb was so tight his bone not only stagnated in growth but it was forced to grow the wrong direction.
When we learned Zeke had not been adopted at a local shelter we adopted him immediately and took him to our vet and orthopedic surgeon the next day. We are not surprised nor unhappy nor worried by the Orin Odis; Zeke will be a much happier dog with a greatly improved quality of life with his left leg being amputated.
He is an Aussie - he flies around on three legs already! This way he won’t have to carry the weight of a useless appendage that’s actually a risk to leave in place.

We want our Aussies happy, healthy and living long fulfilling lives - for some that may mean a surgery that is disturbing to humans but is only made in our group by the city’s best orthopedic surgeons and with the absolute guarantee this dog will be much better off for the rest of his life.
Although Zeke has lived this way his whole life and does not show aggravation or pain, at three years old he is becoming less agile due to the excessive dead weight he is carrying around. He was owner surrendered to animal services for being “too hyper,” but he actually has a perfect level of moderate energy for an Aussie and a wonderful loving disposition.
