Marches, petitions and letter writing haven't worked-- our government has refused to tell the truth about the climate & ecological emergency and they are not doing enough address it. We founded XR Malvern to support nonviolent direct action in order to bring attention to the emergency and to demand a proportionate government response.

Some rebels from our Malvern group were arrested during the September 2020 Rebellion, and their cases are coming to court now. The national XR Arrestee &Legal Support team arranges solicitors and helps with travel costs, but their funds do not cover any fines levied by the court.

We are so grateful for the sacrifice that these rebels have made, and we believe that anyone who feels they are able to risk arrest on behalf of XR should not come to financial hardship because of it. Fines are sometimes under £100, but these can get much higher, especially for second (or third!) offences, which can be closer to £1000. With lockdown easing, we have a range of exciting actions and a rebellion coming up in 2021 where more rebels are offering to risk arrest.

Not everyone in XR is in a position to do civil disobedience and risk arrest. And that's absolutely okay! There are so many ways to support our work, and a financial contribution to enable others may be the right kind of support you can offer. (We're also quite happy for you to help us make flags and banners, to join us in legal protest, to stand at our stall and tell people about XR, to give talks.... there's a lot to be done!)

We plan for this to be an open fundraiser, to cover fines arising now from 2020 arrests, but also rolling forward to cover upcoming arrests over the next several months. These funds will not be used for general XR Malvern group expenses; they are ring-fenced for our arrestees' fines only.
