Our union has created the UC-AFT Member Hardship Fund to provide one-time grants ($250-$500) to support our fellow union members through difficult financial times.  The grants are limited, but they can help with small but significant expenses.

Please donate to this fund to help your fellow UC-AFT members through difficult times.  Note that these contributions are not tax deductible. Your contribution will make an immediate difference in a fellow UC-AFT member's life! 

Here's how your contribution will be used:

Intended recipients are lecturers, librarians, and K-12 instructor members who may be in need and have demonstrated a lack of adequate resources (or who may be ineligible for unemployment).

Any union member who has paid dues in any academic term during 2020 is eligible to apply. Part-time and full-time employees are encouraged to apply. 

Immediate, unmet needs may include but are not limited to:

  • Needs as a result of illness (including COVID19
  • Food and food supplies
  • Prescription and medical supplies
  • Mortgage payments for homes or rent payments
  • Car repairs (or payments)
  • Utility payments
  • Lost employment income
  • Natural disasters (wildfires, earthquakes, etc.) 

Allowable uses of funds might include:

  • Food/food supplies
  • Prescriptions/medical supplies not covered by insurance
  • Rental assistance/mortgage payments for home or business
  • Utility payments
