TALK The Theatre & Arts Leadership Kouncil (TALK) needs your help to help teens become difference-makers in their community through the arts. We plan to do this by keeping the teen's space, the TALK Box ,open so that they can work on several new initiatives:

1. further develop a new improv group where teens will learn teamwork and valuable improv skills in preparation for public performances

2. design and facilitate Arts Kamps where older TALK teens teach 9-12 year-olds cool visual art techniques, theater and spoken word/ poetry skills;

3. a new program designed to bring teens and their community together. This unique and innovatibe ideas is called "Art Tank," which is modeled after TV's Shark Tank.  Teens will learn to articulate or "pitch"their ideas to a panel of leaders and artists.  If successful, they receive support and help developing art events and projects for their communities in southern Cook County, just south of Chicago.

Your generous support will keep the TALK Box open and will help support the initiatives above.

TALK's Background

  • TALK started in 2011 with 11 teens and incorporated in 2012 and is still going strong in 2017, having enrolled and served nearly 150 teens from throughout southern Cook County.
  • With the help of TALK's adult mentors, TALK teens have envisioned and organized many very successful community arts events and projects that have reached countless thousands

Past Events

  • feature-length theatrical performances
  • performance art at area festivals and fairs
  • concerts/music festivals featuring teen performers
  • art shows
  • public speaking to grade school and middle school youth
  • poetry slams

What do TALK members get out of it?

  • arts-focused teens grow, through TALK, and are exposed to many opportunities to grow as leaders. They learn to articulate their ideas, build teams, network, market, and to move ideas through to completion
  • teens build their portfolios and resume developing valuable, transferable skills through hands-on, real-life experiences.
  • teens learn the value of civic involvement, and they enrich their surroundings and become more invested in their communities
  • teens learn multiple ways to develop their "voice" through their art, and they learn means to get their voice heard
  • rather than needing somebody else to "tee" up their successes teens learn to "tee" up their own successes

Where are we located?

  • TALK is located in downtown Homewood, which neighbors and is accessible to many southern Cook County suburbs (e.g. Harvey, Chicago Heights, Markham, Glenwood) where the need for meaningful, healthy teen programs is great and where the arts are often not prioritized
