Hello, I’m Monalisa founder of Parents with Incarcerated Children an organization designed to provide the resources that parents and families need when they are faced with loved ones who are now in the prison system. (www.pwicus.org)
It's that time again and we are getting ready to send more deserving inmates (male and female) to college to obtain their two-four year Degree in Information Technology through Georgia Middle College. This is a brand new program and is being administered in the state of Georgia’s State Prisons. Currently, because the program is so new, courses are limited. Initial classes are in Information Technology (a high demand career field) and can lead to a four-year degree if all course work is completed. This education will enhance post-release employment opportunities and all classes are accredited and transferrable upon release. Georgia DOL projects 4,290 annual openings statewide in Computer Occupations. We picked Georgia because currently that’s where PWIC’s largest footprint is.
We need 100 people to support with $25.00 each.
Your help is being requested because the government does not provide any type of financial assistance and each student requires a minimum of $895.00 each to enroll in class and obtain their books. Your abundance can be shared with others to help reduce repeat offenders by giving them the proper education they need to come out a better well rounded person. Together we can start to create true rehabilitation.
Currently there are 28 students statewide enrolled in this program. PWIC wants to help (4) four of them by paying their tuition for entirety of their studies. Currently they are going to be starting the next semester in April. As an organization we would like to begin to offer even more students an education. For now would you please consider what you can do to help as every bit helps?
We are very optimistic that there is and will be plenty of support for this effort! We are all standing in agreement to change the way our loved ones are being rehabilitated and as a society we owe it to ourselves to start with education.
