Giles County Humane Association hasn't added a story.
She was scared when she approached the welcoming house on the old country road, but hunger overtook her fear. She was cautious when people came out and saw her, but she managed a slight tail wag as a plea for a loving touch, but more importantly....food.
It had been days since she had eaten.
Several days passed, and she roamed from house to house, begging with hungry eyes for a small morsel to fill her empty belly. Some offered kibble, some contacted Giles County Humane Association, and others contacted animal control and ran her off.
She was defiant and hungry and she kept going back, until that one fateful day--she never saw the car coming.
It was several more days before she could find the strength to move, and by then, infection had set in with her broken leg. The pain was excruciating, and the bone sticking through her skin, made it impossible to walk on all fours. She still managed to make her way to a distant farmhouse, where she collapsed, exhausted and near death. This is where little Maggie's story takes a turn.
It had been about three weeks between sightings and the changes were heart wrenching. She had lost so much weight, not that she had much to lose anyway. We did not know if the leg could be saved, but we sure as hell were going to try. Maggie did not fight, she willingly succumbed to the rescuer. She wasnt scared when she was taken to the vet, and surprisingly, she came through surgery well. Because of the break, she has a steel rod in her leg, but we think she is young enough for the bone to mend. In a couple more weeks, she will have another surgery to remove the rod, and then the painstakingly long rehab will start....and that costs money, folks. Please help us give her the best possible start to the rest of her life--every single dollar helps!
We do have high hopes for sweet Maggie and she sure has alot of people pulling for her. Even though she does have a long road to recovery, we feel this sweet little girl dog is going to be back in 4-wheel drive soon, as she has already started blazing a trail into everyone's heart.
