Pearl is a beautiful blue Heeler whose information was sent by several DASH followers with a photo & bio from a large city shelter. We inquired about her age, heartworm status and overall health and agreed to adopter after she was spayed the next day.

We felt Pearl was closer to 5 years as opposed to the 2-3 years she was listed by the shelter but that’s a common issue; under pressure and with so many dogs the shelter vets guesstimate the age of dogs and her demeanor was still moderately active and playful so we left her age as it was written.

Pearl’s mammaries were swollen from a litter of puppies while she was recovering from the spay and although she had a strange looking nipple we believed it would “deflate” with the others during recovery.

Although we waited two to list her there were applications for her as soon as we did - it was her adopters Vet that saw the nipple and palpitated her mammaries and diagnosed the cancer.

We cannot afford the $1900.00 estimate the adopter’s corporate vet gave which does not include a treatment plan. We need Pearl temporarily surrendered back to DASH so she can be diagnosed & treated by a vet we know very well and trust. Pearl is no longer considered eligible for the rescue discount because she has been adopted however our vet still gave a lower diagnosis, biopsy and treatment cost and the continued treatment would be much less expensive.

Although she is technically adopted from a city shelter they cannot help with these costs. Pearl, now “Luna” is a beloved pet with a family who loves her, but just as DASH adopted her from

the shelter as a healthy dog, so did they adopt her from us, and unlike the city we will not take her back and euthanize her, we PROMISED to raise funds for a trusted vet and not only is this tumor removable the cancer may not have spread since we are catching it early.If it has we are still committed to treating her.

We are asking for contributions to her fund ASAP so when she sees the vet Tuesday he can proceed immediately with biopsy, x-rays and histopathy etc.
