The Legend
Gerald "Jerry" Stevens began skywriting in Boca Raton before moving to Orlando, where he became known for creating breathtaking messages at 10,500 feet, stretching 7 miles long with letters that soar up to 3/4 of a mile high.
His skywritten messages are a spectacle for both theme park visitors and locals throughout Orlando, who often gather to watch the messages unfold in the sky. One of his most iconic creations, a giant smiley face, has been seen by countless people, including airline pilots and passengers approaching Orlando International Airport and surrounding airports.
The skywriting is frequently captured on cell phones, with the messages spreading quickly on social media and around the world. In fact, they’ve even been spotted on billboards in China. This "Holy Smoke" phenomenon is the work of Gerald Stevens—though you can just call him Jerry, God's skywriter.
