Twin Heart Animal Sanctuary Society hasn't added a story.
<span;>This little, 7 month-old goat was born with severe
deformities in both front legs. His first humans' vet thought that
splinting would do the job (no x-rays taken) and one was applied to
one front leg.
<span;>But when the splint came off, the leg soon
regressed.
<span;>Some months later, a new family took him in to try
and help him. But it became apparent that his front legs were far
worse than previously thought. They were very crooked and he was
showing pain.
<span;>Everyone loved him and hoped that someone could
help this spunky little guy.
<span;>But, they were running out of options as the
veterinary care in that small town was quite limited and the vets felt
his best course would be euthanasia.
<span;>Truthfully, the last thing that we at Twin Heart
Animal Sanctuary needed was another goat, especially another one with
intensive time-and-money-consuming, special needs.
<span;>However, he had tugged at my heart and his future
was looking bleak.
<span;>A dear supporter and friend left his home at 4:00
AM to drive the 6 hours there and 6 hours back to bring Finnigan to
his permanent home and into our arms.
<span;>A few days later, he was at the vet to get x-rays.
His legs were far worse than we'd thought.
<span;>There are small bones that are fused together,
parts missing, his legs are pointed in the wrong direction, and there
are just a whole lot of congenital anomalies, including this lower
joint being floppy.
<span;>So, the plan is to anesthetize him (always a risk,
especially with farm animals, but this vet has a lot of experience),
cut the bone, rotate it, fuse it in place, fuse the lower joint, hold
it all in place with pins and then encase it with a cast.
<span;>The cast needs to be left on for 8 weeks. Then he
goes back for another anesthetic to remove the pins and cast.
<span;>After the one leg is healed, we'll be doing pretty
much the same on the other.
<span;>At that point, we'll have a happy little goat who
can run and play without pain.
<span;>The total guesstimate for the two surgeries is
$10,000. I'm adding on some extra because of the travel, the inside
facilities he'll need during his rehabilitation, and any extras that
always seem to come along.
For now, we're focusing on the first surgery which will cost approximately $5,000.
<span;>I know this is a huge ask. But if you can spare
even $5 to help, it'd be so appreciated.
<span;>The surgeries will allow Finnigan to be a goat; to
run and jump and play without the pain he has been experiencing.
<span;>T'is the season for miracles. Can you help us give
Finnigan the miracle he deserves?
