Elina A., a grade 8 student at St. John School, has recently been diagnosed with Diffuse Large B Cell Lymphoma. We are calling on the community to come together to help raise funds and rally for Elina & her family while supporting them in their fight.

Elina, a grade 8 student at St. John School, has been diagnosed with Diffuse Large B Cell Lymphoma.  When Elina heard this very sombre diagnosis, she immediately changed the tone in the room by announcing to her doctors that she named the tumour "Juan" and as usual, she cracked everyone up.  So as we wish that "Juan be Gone" we are calling on the whole community to come together to rally for Elina and her family and support them in their fight.

Elina is being treated at SickKids Hospital in Toronto and will be an in-patient through Christmas and into the New Year. Her prognosis is encouraging – she is responding well to treatment and, most importantly, is keeping up her special sense of humour and charm despite the physical challenges she’s facing.

The support already shown by our community is outstanding – friends and family have been at Elina and her mom, Dina’s side, keeping her spirits high and bringing love and strength.  But Elina’s family will need much more support in the coming months.

Please join us to help Elina’s family, and to help fund the fight against childhood cancer.

Your contribution will be used two ways:

  •  50% will go directly to SickKids Hospital Foundation (and you will be supplied a tax receipt for that amount in the new year provided that your donation is at least $40 as a tax receipt is only issued for gifts of $20 or more)
  •  50% will go directly to support Elina’s family during this difficult time

Your continued thoughts, prayers and moral support are equally valued and appreciated.

On behalf of Elina and her family, “Meegwetch” which means “Thank you” in Ojibway.
