Early morning at 4.18am on 16 October when most people still slept, a 4.8 Richter scale earthquake struck Bali. The epicentre of this shallow earthquake with was right under the village, causing extreme damage and death of a young girl.

Latest data on 17th October showed that 363 houses totally destroyed, 762 light-medium damage and 123 temples destroyed or damaged. Homeless families are staying under tarpaulins or squeezing in with neighbours who have safe locations as are those with damaged houses who dare not stay in their cracked-wall houses that can collapse any times.

We urgently need your help to build safe shelters for them as the rainy season has already started in the village.

We plan to provide all the materials and technical support for 363 families who completely lost their houses to build tarpaulin covered bamboo A-frame houses as temporary shelters until the government can provide the resources for permanent houses. Each 4 x 5 meter house can shelter a family of 6-7 people. We also plan to provide simple kitchens when funds are available.
