This is a fundraiser that will not only Save More Dogs; it will ultimately help local students become involved with our rescue, offer Peace of Mind to so many Friends of DASH, and hopefully create a Silver Lining for those of us who see our childhood neighborhoods destroyed by a dozen tornadoes that ripped apart homes, schools, churches & synagogues and the shopping center so many of us continued to give our patronage until last week.
PLEASE HELP US HELP DOGS DISPLACED BY LAST WEEK’S TORNADOES!
There is nothing scarier or more sad to see PETS stranded & terrified alone after Natural Disasters. THIS disaster has a personal attachment for me as I’ve shared below our pleas for support.
THE WORST PART OF THE RECENT TORNADO has been countless texts, calls, emails etc regarding the need for Rescue Groups like DASH to step in and save dogs in any way we can. Dallas Animal Services is 25% over capacity; they are holding strays from the storm to give owners extra time to find lost pets and that means rescue groups like ours need to reach out to save the lives of animals who were already IN the shelter: their days are numbered now more than ever.
You can help DASH help MORE DOGS by donating to this Fundrazr or by donating on our dashdog.org site.
You can read my story below for nostalgia since I know so many of you, DASH followers, grew up with us.
As Executive Director of DASH Dog Rescue I’m sharing with our followers how last week’s tornado Hit HOME for me. I mean it literally Hit Home - the neighborhood where my mom and her brothers and countless cousins, friends & other relatives grew up,
Although my sister & I were born in New England near the prep school where my father was Head of English Department as well as a baseball & basketball coach, a Twist of Fate brought my mom back to Dallas, along with my sister and me in 1975 when my father was offered the Head of English Department at St. Mark’s school.
So I grew up in Preston Hollow in the mid 70s in a house 6 blocks from St. Mark’s and, not ironically, 10 blocks the other way from the house where my mom’s parents still lived.
An incredibly safe neighborhood where we could ride bikes with our friends to Preston-Royal shopping center - now almost entirely destroyed. It’s obviously changed drastically the past 40 years but some flagship stores remained like Marco’s Pizza, Preston Hollow Animal Clinic and Dougherty’s drug store.
Likewise St. Mark’s School of Texas was our “second home;” my father
was Head of English Dept then Head of Upper School.
a Tornado touched down at St. Mark’s with a funnel cloud we could see
from our home; seeing the aftermath of the 2019 Tornado, especially
having destroyed parts of St. Mark’s campus AGAIN is really sad.
Of course DASH can’t help every dog in need - but we will be working for weeks to come with DFW area shelters to save as many dogs as possible to reunite with families or get new homes before the holidays!
PLEASE DONATE TO HELP WITH transports, Dog-Sitters, fosters, VETTING, food and other typical rescue resources!
Very Gratefully,
Sara
