Chinook City Roller Derby League hasn't added a story.
Chinook City Roller Derby (CCRD) is a Calgary non-profit association dedicated to learning, playing, and promoting co-ed roller derby in a skater owned and operated team atmosphere. Many of our members have strong ties to the larger roller skating community in Calgary as well.
In February of 2018, Calgary's only remaining roller rink was permanently closed, leaving the community without a dedicated indoor skating space for roller and inline skating. Spaces that allow indoor skating are required for Roller Derby, Roller Figure Skating, Speed Skating, as well as recreational skating for the whole community. Finding a permanent space to host these activities has become a mission of our league.
Our league has begun searching for a 10,000 to 15,000 sqft space with concrete or hardwood floor that can suitably be used as a dedicated skating space. This space would host public skating nights at least 2 nights per week and be available for rent by the large number of skating organizations in the Calgary area. But we need the help of the community.
We are currently trying to raise funds in order to secure a facility and make necessary renovations for a functional roller rink. This includes installing washrooms, adding carpet outside skating areas, provide seating, and many other improvements.
To make the community truly a part of this space, we would like to commemorate all donors on a permanent donor wall alongside the skating rink. Please see the perks for more details.
