On May 16, 2020, a select group of brave Centre County community members will jump from a perfectly good airplane. Yes, it’s true! All in an effort to demonstrate their commitment to mental health awareness and suicide prevention. Centre Helps is proud to partner with Skydive Happy Valley for this first-annual fundraising event called, “Centre Helps Has Your Back.” Your support of this event helps us provide life-saving services to the people in Centre County.

Did you know that someone dies by suicide every four hours in Pennsylvania? Yes, and suicide is the #2 cause for death among 18-35 year olds in our state. Because anyone can experience a temporary loss of hope, Centre Helps partners with the National Suicide Hotline to ensure anyone in need has a professionally trained listening ear 24-hours a day, 365 days a year.

More about Centre Helps

Centre Helps got its start in the early 70’s as a 24-hour hotline to support individuals struggling with drug related issues. After almost fifty years, we continue to provide that hotline and we’ve recently upped our game and partnered with the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline. Additionally, we serve as Centre County’s information and referral line.

But there’s more, our mission goes well beyond serving our community through the hotline, we also want to be teachers through our educational programs. That’s why we offer a hotline counselor training course which includes the evidence-based Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training. And we’re not stopping there, we also offer case management for individuals who are experiencing a short-term financial crisis which prevents them from meeting the basic needs of their families. Additionally, for years, we have been offering drug and alcohol education to young people through our Youthful Offenders Program.

We hope that you will support this event, and all that we stand for, by sponsoring one of our jumpers or by making a donation to Centre Helps directly.
