The Chinese Canadian National Council Toronto Chapter (CCNCTO) hasn't added a story.

The Chinese Canadian National Council Toronto Chapter (平权会多伦多分会) (CCNCTO) is requesting your support for our 2022 Fundraiser: Chinese Worker Solidarity and emPOWERment (2022 筹款活动:华裔工人团结与力量 ).

This holiday season, CCNCTO is focused on highlighting community solidarity, resiliency, and power. We hope to fundraise an auspicious $8,888 to meet our community’s increasing demands, assist the most marginalized Chinese community members, and advocate for an equitable recovery. In particular, this fundraiser will recognize and support the Chinese workers who have worked tirelessly throughout the pandemic and who often face exploitation and discrimination from their employers and larger systemic forces. This fundraiser will be taking place from December 9, 2022 to January 15, 2023.

Who are we?

Since 1980, CCNCTO has been organizing with Chinese Canadians in Toronto to advocate for racial and economic justice and to build up our community’s capacity to engage in collective action for change. Our programming and advocacy efforts have been informed by the knowledge and experiences of our members, including Chinese workers.

Why should I support a grassroots fundraiser?

This grassroots fundraising effort aims to empower Chinese workers. Your donation will directly contribute to CCNCTO’s outreach initiatives that provide community resources, information, and help to precarious Chinese workers. A portion of the donation will also contribute to New Year gift packages that will be distributed to Chinese workers in the community. These packages will include a 2023 Worker Calendar that helps workers fight wage theft and access necessary community resources, PPE, and various tokens of appreciation.

In 2023, we hope to continue building on the amazing work we have done in partnership with community members. However, as CCNCTO is growing and attempting to support our community’s increasing demands, we are calling on our community to show up and stand in solidarity with Chinese workers for racial and economic justice.

Your generous donation, whatever the amount, will directly support Chinese workers with CCNCTO:

  • $15 will cover the cost of hosting 1 worker at a community event with free food and transit subsidy
  • $25 will support simple interpretation or translation allowing a Chinese worker to access essential services, such as booking an appointment or receiving language-accessible medical services at a health clinic
  • $50 will cover the cost of printing a 2023 Worker calendar for 2 Chinese workers
  • $100 will cover 3 months' worth of personal protective equipment for a Chinese worker
  • $200 will support CCNCTO with facilitating a Chinese workers’ fight for various rights, such as immigration, labour, housing, and social assistance
  • $350 will support an outreach session led by experienced community leaders to neighbourhoods where they can directly provide community resources or information to marginalized workers
  • $500 will fund an intergenerational community event for Chinese seniors, workers, and youth
  • $1000 will support a training session for community leaders, equipping them with the necessary organizing and legal knowledge and tools to empower others

Throughout the pandemic, CCNCTO led initiatives to combat anti-Asian racism nationally, such as developing a third-party anti-Asian racism reporting platform and communicating with different levels of government and media to advocate for community members. In addition to strong advocacy work, CCNCTO has also been delivering ongoing community projects that engage over 2,500 Chinese-speaking members, most of whom are low-income seniors, precarious workers, and immigrant youth. With the day-to-day groundwork that their staff, members, and volunteers have put in, we have been able to connect to over 5,000 marginalized Chinese workers during the pandemic through outreach. In addition to providing these workers with necessary protective equipment and information, we have also hosted numerous intergenerational events to connect community members of diverse backgrounds, fostering a strong sense of community solidarity and power.

By directly supporting initiatives that equip Chinese workers with the knowledge to fight back against racial and economic injustice, donations will both acknowledge and sustain our community solidarity and empowerment efforts.

Thank you kindly for your support! We wish you and yours the best in the New Year.

Lastly, a special thank you to Stephanie Fung for designing the graphics for this fundraiser!

With love and solidarity,

CCNCTO Team

  2. What is your solution?
Describe your plan to address the problem and highlight what makes your approach unique or effective.
  3. How will the funds be used?
Outline how the money will be allocated to specific programs, resources or services.
  4. How will contributions make a tangible difference?
Explain the benefits and positive changes resulting from your project being funded. If appropriate, also explain how the lives of beneficiaries will be impacted.
