HELP US BUILD BATTLECLUB

Battleclub is a weekly non-competitive NERF and Combat Archery rec league for kids and adults to get off the couch, get exercise, meet friends and shoot each other! Huzzah!!

Games are hosted by IRL Battle Arena and will be held on Saturday afternoons at the gym of Glenlyon Norfolk elementary school in Victoria, B.C.

ACHIEVING CRITICAL MASS

We love video games as much as the next person, but some of us love them too much, and excessive screen time is literally making us sick. We desperately need IRL physical activity that is just as much fun as 1st person shooters, but promotes physical health and fitness.

Many of our past Battle Arena participants have suggested regular public events. We agree! However it takes more than one or two players to make a Battleclub. Unlike that famous scene in the movie Fight Club, you can't stand in the parking lot and fight yourself.

The interest is strong to start weekly pickup games. After carefully researching all the options we decided that the optimal choice is Saturday afternoons at the GNS elementary gym in Oak Bay, we just need to recruit enough members to financially sustain an indoor venue. We did the math (outlined below) and all we need is 16 members. The only trick is getting everyone to coalesce around the same schedule. Let’s make that happen!

ABOUT US

At IRL Battle Arena we have over 3 decades of experience with archery, paintball and other live action combat sports. Drawing from that “In Real Life” experience we create safe, family friendly games that promote Good Health, Camaraderie and Fair Play.

SAFE AND HEALTHY FAMILY FUN

The equipment we use includes inflatable bunkers, NERF blasters, low-poundage bows shooting foam-tipped arrows and paintball safety masks. All games are safe and use soft projectiles that do not hurt. This makes Battle Arena matches family friendly for adults and kids alike, in sharp contrast to similar IRL alternatives such as paintball or airsoft. No matter your age, we will get your adrenaline pumping!

EXERCISE

Childhood obesity is on the rise due to decreased physical activity among kids. Older folks are suffering an epidemic of sitting and need every excuse to get off their screens and get their cardio pumping. Physical activity improves health, boosts mood and is the single best source of physical and emotional well being across all age groups and demographics.

CAMARADERIE

Decades of research in social and positive psychology proves that face-to-face socialization boosts mood, improves health and powerfully contributes to feelings of wellbeing and happiness.

KEEP IT FUN

Make your exercise the highlight of your week, not a boring chore. Choosing physical activities that are intrinsically fun boosts the chances that you will keep it up as a longterm routine, which is the true key to a healthy lifestyle. And that is what we call “winning.”

TAKING THE "PAIN" OUT OF PAINTBALL

Many who used to play paintball are turning to Battle Arena as a more mature alternative. Over the decades paintball has evolved away from its roots as a slower, tactical, thinking game and more towards an extreme sport. The well-known pain and welts of paintball has marginalized it away from the mainstream, and is widely seen as a deal-breaker for those of us wanting to share our recreation time with family.

To solve this, Battleclub combines the full gamut of what players expect from online shooters with the adrenaline rush and intense cardio workout of IRL sports like paintball, but without the discomfort and bruises. Combat archery in particular harkens back to the earlier decades of pump paintball, where every shot counts and accuracy is king. For those of us who used to play paintball, combat archery represents a worthy successor well suited to a new generation raised on the Hunger Games.

SCHEDULE

Battleclub will run most Saturdays, with an average 3.33 Saturdays/month included in the membership fee. An average of one Saturday per month will be taken off to allow for holidays, special events and unscheduled interruptions. Each Saturday that Battleclub operates will include two 90-minute sessions, one for BYOB NERF and the other BYOB Archery.

NERF BYOB BATTLECLUB

- 90 minutes of scrimmage-style pickup games
- Bring Your Own NERF Blaster
- Ages: 7+
- Darts and Rival balls provided by the club; other ammo types permitted but NOT provided
- Variety of spring-powered or motorized NERF rental blasters available if needed

ARCHERY BYOB BATTLECLUB

- 90 minutes of scrimmage-style pickup games
- Bring Your Own Bow
- Ages: 12+ and able to draw a 25# bow
- Personal recurve bows must be 25# draw weight and checked each session
- New members are eligible to receive one of our rental safety masks to keep for free
- Rental bows available if needed

Single session rates gain access to either NERF or Archery, but not both.

MEMBERSHIPS

Membership grants unlimited access to BOTH Archery and NERF sessions each Saturday that Battleclub operates, making memberships rates effectively two-for-the-price-of-one, or half-price. Memberships are fully transferable, so a single membership could grant a parent or older sibling access to Archery and a child or younger sibling access to NERF. Alternately, if a member could not attend, they could lend their ticket to a friend.

Individual Monthly Membership:

$30/day x3.33/month = $99.90/month

Group Membership Discount:

- Register as a group of 6 or more and save $5 off your base admission rate/membership, or the 6th membership is free.
$25/day x3.33/month = $83.25/month
$499.5/group of 6

Annual Memberships:

We will not be offering annual memberships at launch, but once we are up and rolling we will be offering a 12-month membership for the price of 10 months, thus giving those who commit to a year the benefit of 2 months free.

LAUNCH GOALS

To launch this rec program we only need a combined minimum of 16+ individual members or just 3+ groups. That's equivalent to only one 8v8 game, or just two 4v4 games. Easy peasy! We will keep recruiting until we reach that goal!!

HOW CAN I HELP BATTLECLUB BECOME A REALITY?

1. Spread the Good Word:

The most important thing you can do is spread the word! Whether or not you yourself want to play, you must certainly know friends, family, coworkers or random casual acquaintances who might be grateful to learn about Battleclub. Please take this moment now to share the campaign with them using the many share tools available in the Share Bar located below the header of the campaign page. Special attention should be given to sports teams, work groups, clubs or other existing networks who could benefit from the discount of signing up as a group of 6 or more players.

2. Sponsorships:

Consider sponsoring. Individuals or corporate organizations are welcome to fund one or more memberships and turn those tickets over to Battle Arena as an endowment for aspiring players who wish to join but can not afford the membership fees. Alternately a business or corporation can fund a group membership for either their stakeholders or members of the general community. Such groups could be reserved for a chosen class of individuals or opened to the general public, or a combination of both.
