Tomorrow's Promise -- The Montessori School of Huntsville hasn't added a story.
Perhaps the most memorable traits of Douglas ALAN Jenkin were his tenderness toward others, his incredible sense of humor and joke-telling (eternally posting puns on his Facebook page), his dedication to taking care of his physical body (still jogging — often a couple miles — usually twice a week); his openness to new information; and his viewing Life as a constantly-new adventure.
Alan’s earthly life began on September 14, 1932, in Colchester, Harwich, England, and — after fighting respiratory issues for the previous few days— ended quite suddenly on the evening of November 29, 2021, in Huntsville, Texas, at the home he shared with his wife Billie Willmon Jenkin,
Alan grew up in the United Kingdom and trained as a navigator in the Royal Air Force during the Korean War era. During his training, he was in a plane crash, followed by a near-death experience which — choosing to live — Alan’s perception of God shifted from a religious view to a spiritual one. That shift in perception of deity affected his outlook for the rest of his life.
After Alan re-entered the civilian world, he studied physics at the University of Oxford (His degree might be interpreted in the U.S as equivalent to a “Master’s”). After graduation, he worked in technology most of his adult life. Computer experience from the very early days of the science led him to work primarily in consulting on planning and optimization projects in the oil and petrochemical industries. and allowed him to experience every continent except Antarctica.
After university, Alan and Rosemary Joan Finch married and raised four children, eventually settling in Texas — first in Houston, and finally in Huntsville. In 1993, Rosemary’s life ended following a painful battle with cancer. The couple’s survivors include the following:
Names of offspring with Rosemary Finch Jenkin:
Alan Paul Jenkin; wife Alisa Greenstate-Jenkin (Oakview, CA)
Kai Cortez Jenkin, grandson
Sally Marie Jenkin; husband: Craig Curtis (Tomball, TX)
Michaela Curtis, granddaughter: Noah Bjorkman,
great-grandson (Cypress, TX)
Christian Curtis grandson; wife: Victoria (Cypress, TX)
Richard Patrick Jenkin (San Diego, CA)
Christopher John Jenkin and wife: Lori Meadows Jenkin (Houston)
Andrea Rosemary Jenkin, granddaughter
Sydney Balteras, step-granddaughter; Elijah, step-great grandson: (Corpus Christi)
Zane Wilson, step-grandson (Houston)
Sam Wilson (Victoria, TX)
In 1994, Alan and Billie Willmon met at an evening dance class at nearby Sam Houston State University. After a long friend-/courtship and a wedding on March 14, 1998, Billie’s last name became Jenkin. At that time Alan “adopted” her offspring as well. The Willmon-line survivors include:
Rusty Willmon, stepson; Ken Williams, stepson-in-law (Austin, TX)
Trent Willmon, stepson; Lizzie May Willmon, stepdaughter-in-law (Dickson, TN)
Montana Willmon Popham, step-granddaughter; Harrison Popham, step grandson-in-law (Krum, TX)
For many years Alan's late wife Rosemary taught at a Montessori. So, to honor her role in Alan's and their children's lives we have selected a local Montessori school for friends and family to donate to in lieu of flowers. All donations will go to “Tomorrow’s Promise: The Montessori School of Huntsville”.
