Wizard, so named because his behavior progress (from aggressive
posturing with men to sweet, affectionate happy boy, ready for a
family) was so quick it seemed magical, has come SO far. On the verge
of getting a rescue to take him under their wing so he could find a
family, he became suddenly VERY ill. He became extremely lethargic,
not eating or drinking, very dehydrated, and was taken to All About
Pets for treatment.
Initially thinking he had Parvo, that treatment protocol was
started immediately. However, after 24 hours at the vet, he became
even more lethargic, less responsive and started having
"pedaling" syndrome, where his little legs would just pedal
away like he was trying to swim. This behavior can be symptomatic of
something neurological.
After further blood tests, the diagnosis seems less and less to
indicate Parvo and more and more to indicate Distemper. While Parvo
has a good success rate when treated early, Distemper has a dismal
prognosis. But we are NOT giving up hope yet! We are continuing his
treatment, hoping that he will make better progress within the next
few days.
Wag-N-Train is a *very* small group with very limited financial
resources. Our budget for an entire year is only $5,000, and we are at
mid-year already. So we desperately need your help to cover Wizard's
treatment expenses.
The first two days of his treatment (7/01 and 7/02) have
totaled $213.22. Each additional day he remains at the vet is
estimated to be $140.00 per day. We want to give Wizard every chance
to survive, but we can't do it without your help!
