Ohana Rescue Inc hasn't added a story.

This is a very hard subject to speak of. It has been a very long emotional draining day. Everyone that knows me, knows that Isabell was always the worst case that Ohana has brought in...well not anymore. Some of you will put Ohana down, and some will stand with us, and some will offer help. Others will come and see and turn their heads. And others might get on the band wagon and say...WE CAN DO THIS... This story is being told with facts from doctor notes and previous owner notes. June 8th 2012 started out as a normal day at the show barn. Everyone was fulfilling their duties working with all the horses.. A registered yr old filly by the name of Kisses from a King was being worked with. She was going to be in the nationals this year. Everyone was so thrilled and pleased with this beautiful Arabian. Black as black and shined like a river tumbled rock. She completed her work when the storms started rolling in..the grounds got wet. The barn manager was walking her to her stall area, and new horse in the barn jumped out and spooked the little filly. She reared up, her back legs slipped from under her and she went over hitting her head on the stalls. Blood immediately started running out of her nose, she was paralized on the left side..couldnt get her up, she was frozen still. Front feet to left, moderate swelling to left eye and conjenitive flexadion and extention of all four limbs. Medication given and told to roll the horse from side to side every hour for 24 hours. Monitor bleeding from the nose. If not standing in 24 hours suggested humane euthanazation. She was able to get up after 24 hours. Two days later she had very high fever, and was put on more medication. Rolling her once again every 24 hours. She went blind. Now this ''ON HER WAY TO THE NATIONALS YEAR OLD FILLY" could not longer walk on her own, and she was now blind and burning up with fever. Ten days after the accident, Kisses was transported to Ocala Equine Facility, where extensive tests were run on her: THE MAJOR ABNORMALITIES NOTED DURING THE PHYSCIAL EXAM WERE BLINDNESS WITH ABNORMAL EYE POSITION, NO PAPILARY LIGHT RESPONSE IN EITHER EYE IN ADDITION TO A LEFT SIDE HEAD TILT. THESE FINDINGS INDICATE THAT THE FILLY HAS LESIONS IN HER MIDDLE BRAIN INCLUDING LOSS OF OCULOMOTOR NERVES. SKULL FRACTURE WAS NOT NOTED ON HEAD RADIOGRAPHS, BUT FRACTURE HAS LIKELY OCCURED BUT CANNOT BE IMAGED. TO FURTHER DEFINE THE PROBLEM A CT SCAN IS INDICATED. HER WHITE BLOOD CELL COUNT AND SERUM ARE ELEVATED, CONSISTENT WITH INFECTION OR INFLAMMATION. Brings us to four days ago, I get a call from a woman in tears, telling me that no other rescue will take her. That the barn owner stated she doesnt want to put her down, but if no rescue will take her that is what will happen. The barn manager is telling me that the filly is regaining some of her eyesight back in her right eye, and that she is moving around on her own now. Would we please help this filly. She said OHANA where the mind body and soul are rejuvanated..I told her we would help. Then heard nothing. This morning, the woman calls me and tells me that they have been in the truck for over two hours and are 5 miles away. Allan and I hurry with what we were doing and try and prepare for this little filly. WE WERE NO WAY PREPARED FOR WHAT WE SEEN WHEN THE TRAILER OPENED. It took almost an hour to get her out of trailer. We had to find a spot low enough or high enough that the trailer tires would go deep enough so that there was no height for her to com eout of trailer. She finally came out of trailer, stumbling on her weak legs..her head to the left, her right eye looking up trying to find where sounds were coming from. I spent about five hours with her this afternoon and evening. She is a fighter..she should have been gone three weeks ago, but she is walking on her own, she is trying to adjust to her sight lose. If she can fight this hard to stay alive, why shouldnt others help her with that fight? I massaged her neck for hours today. You could actually feel the muscles loosening. If not for long for a few minutes..she feel asleep with her head in my arms today. She is walking on her own tonight. She is learning where the water is. The hay is. I held her feed bucket to make sure she got it all. We were told that she has been improving by the day. We pray that we will be able to help her by giving her the time she needs to heal, or the ability to let her go. To all our friends and family that come to OHANA, I do want to tell you, if you do not want to witness what is happening here with her, you might not want to stop by for a while. It is very heartwrenching, and to those that would like to help us help her, it would be so appreciated..we will be not be able to take in any rescues at this time. Kisses from a King, will be the work and financial six horses rolled into one.
