Peanut Butter Sundays is a mental health initiative for the whole community — or as we like to say — on both sides of the sandwich bag. By encouraging engagement between the housed and unhoused we expand our collective awareness of one another and acknowledge the humanity of all people. Giving or receiving a sandwich is simple, but we believe it has the power to build a healthier and saner community for everyone.
What Makes These Sandwiches Special?
They’re made by KIDS! We need to change the way we think about community care and that starts with education and action. Spreading peanut butter and jelly on a couple of slices of bread does more than just make a sandwich, it recognizes the humanity of the over sixty thousand Angelinos currently experiencing homelessness.
Why Skateboarding?
Because skate culture is street culture! The streets have been our playground ever since the first board was slapped on four wheels. We transformed benches into grind rails, trashcans into hurdles, and stairs into launch pads. Now it’s our responsibility as stewards of the streets to support our neighbors living on the very sidewalks we skate. We believe deeply in the motto “Public Lands for Public Good” which is a call to local lawmakers to prioritize affordable housing on publicly owned lands, but until that happens… it means lifting up those folks currently living in our parks and on our street corners.
