GOALS OF THE ECOART NETWORK
The Ecoart Network (www.ecoartnetwork.org) seeks solutions to critical environmental challenges. Our work as ecoartists is transdisciplinary, merging the sciences, arts, and community practice to understand these crises while discovering practical actions to affect real and substantive change. How do we educate those who feel an urgency to address our environmental and social crises? What ethical concerns do art-makers face who are committed to a deep green agenda? How can we refocus education to emphasize integrative thinking and inspire hope? What role might art play in actualizing environmental resilience?
In the photo, students replant rescued mangrove propagules at the East Wells Project Site, Bimini as part of the H.O.M.E. project of artist, Lillian Ball. They work to restore the distinctive ecosystems and reverse the ecological damage caused by development on these islands.
OUR URGENT NEED
The Ecoart Network needs funds to support educational outreach
facilitated by internationally established practitioners.
Specifically we intend to send our members to conferences and other
events to present their research, thought, and work with national
networks of educators, artists, activists, and scientists. Your
donations will be used to cover participation fees for our members
who do not have institutional support or cannot afford to cover
required conference fees on their own, and so cannot otherwise bring
their unique research forward.
The first event in our outreach program will be five ecoart panel presentations at the College Art Association conference in 2022. Further events are being planned for the Society for Ecological Restoration (SER), Bioneers, and Imagining America, as well as other networks and platforms (e.g. ecoartspace, ecoartscotland), and a range of independent bloggers. Any additional funds raised past our initial goal ($5000) will support those efforts.
OUR FORTHCOMING BOOK
Donors will receive advance copies of ECOART IN ACTION, our inspiring new field guide compiled from 67 members of the Ecoart Network. This comprehensive, 384-page book features Activities, Case Studies, and Provocations providing practical solutions to critical environmental challenges.
Each contribution in the illustrated 8.5 x 8.5 inch book
provides models for ecoart practice that are adaptable for use
within a variety of classrooms, communities, and contexts. Readers
will find inspiration for integrating art, science, and
community-engaged practices into on-the-ground environmental
projects.
Educators developing project- and place-based learning curricula will especially appreciate this book, as well as citizens, policymakers, scientists, land managers, and those who work with communities (human and other). If you share a concern for the environmental crisis and believe art can provide new options, this book is for you!
