Hello this is Julia from Pregnant Mare Horse Rescue. We are asking for your help to raise awareness about the suffering and ultimate slaughter of horses used to produce Premarin.

Premarin is a common drug prescribed to millions of women world wide as a hormone replacement therapy.  The name stands for "PREgant MAres uRINe" since the drug is produced from the hormones naturally present in the mare's urine.

For most of their 11 month pregnancies, these horses are confined to stalls so small that they cannot turn around or even take more than one step in any direction. They wear a catheter and rubber urine collection bag at all times which often causes urine scald, uterine infections and other complications.

The mares only go off the urine line to give birth to their foals and be impregnated again. The unwanted foals are often sent off to slaughter as they have no use. Often the mares will be sent to slaughter too epecially if they can no longer conceive.

In order for these mares and foals to be saved from slaughter, Pregnant Mare Rescue needs money to purchase them before the kill buyers who ship them off to Canada and Mexico to be slaughtered in a most in-humane way.
