WHO WE ARE
Autistics United Canada is an autistic-run, volunteer organization committed to promoting Disability Justice through an intersectional lens.
As a group run by disabled volunteers, we are underfunded and rely on donations from the public to host events and activities.
WHAT WE ARE FUNDRAISING FOR
The International Disability Day of Mourning commemorates people with
disabilities murdered by family members and caregivers. We
honour and celebrate the lives of our disabled ancestors who met
unjust deaths at the hands of their caretakers.
We are fundraising for accessibility services (eg: ASL interpretation and captioning) and honoraria for speakers and organizers.
HOW YOUR DONATION HELPS
ASL Interpretation allows for Deaf, Hard of Hearing, and hearing people to communicate with each other.
Captioning helps provide communication access for a wide variety of people: Deaf and Hard of Hearing people, people with auditory processing issues, people who do not have a reliable WiFi connection, people who do not speak English as a native language, etc.
These accessibility services are necessary for the participation of disabled attendees and organizers in a community event where we collectively grieve against ableist violence.
Our speakers and volunteers are disabled community members, whose labour is valuable and often under-compensated. We would like to be able to provide them also with honoraria.
