Surfing is a relatively new sport to Algeria, compared to other more recognised surfing territories around the world, and as such the country has never competed at the sport on an international stage, yet has great waves and ambitious surfers. Local watersports association, Club des Sports de Glisse, is a non-profit organisation specialized in several board sports that exists to make its members discover the mountainous and maritime riches of Algeria.
Club des Sport de Glisse has just been accredited as the official federation for surfing in Algeria by the International Surfing Association, which now enables aspiring Algerian surfers to compete for their country for the first time at internationally recognised surfing competitions.
Local surfers Khaled Zirour and Hacene Sadiou wish to seize this moment and achieve their life-long dream to compete for Algeria at the 2021 Olympic Games in Tokyo. But first they must qualify by travelling to El Salvador to compete at the World Surfing Games from May 29th to June 6th 2021.
The travel expenses for both surfers, plus support officials, event registrations and necessary equipment, is proving to be quite costly, combined with the limited time to reach this financial goal. Thus, Club des Sport de Glisse has started this fundraiser to help cover the costs to proudly send the Algeria Surf Team to the World Surfing Games next month.
Your money will be helping to put Algerian surfing and sporting talent on the world stage, and to enable two local boys from the small fishing town of Ain Taya to reach their full potential as professional surfers. We hope you will join us on this mission. Go surf team Algeria!! :)
