Aspiring2 CIC hasn't added a story.
Aspiring2 is a not for profit company which supports individuals from marginalised groups to reach their full potential. Work includes coaching and group work to encourage social interaction, befriending, improved confidence and self esteem and raised aspirations. Over the past two years we have concentrated on organising innovative activities to reduce isolation amongst older people, those with dementia, those with a disability and their carers.
The aim of our fundraiser is to:
Reduce isolation
Improve memory skills
Improve general
health and wellbeing including mental health
Promote positive
relationships in communities
Provide a greater awareness of other
support services within the locality and access routes.
We host vintage tea parties and memory lane bingo to support all the above however Christmas and the New Year is nationally recognised as being the loneliest time of year for those who are eperiencing reduced family circles. We are planning to host a Vintage Tea Party on the 29th December 2017
This is how a Vintage Tea Party makes a difference and helps to combat isolation
We set the scene by recreating the feel of a 1940’s parlour otherwise known as the ‘best' room’. This includes a vintage room screen/divider displaying pictures and memorabilia from that era. The room displays a variety of household items including a 1940s mantel clock, washboard and dolly peg, radio, guzunder, box bownie camera, picnic basket and many other nostalgic items from that era. Music from the 1940s will be playing in the background to create atmosphere and immediately encourage our guests to share memories of times gone by while creating new memories with new people and encouraging new friendships.
We begin the day with afternoon tea; providing an assortment of hand
cut sandwiches and cakes, typical of the 1940’s and 1950’s on
beautiful vintage crockery and serve tea and coffee at each table
offering a feeling of quality 1940's customer service. During tea,
guests are encouraged to engage in social interactions with one
another. To aid this process, they are invited to participate in a
nostalgia quiz in small groups to further assist memory and create
conversation. Guests are also encouraged to select an item from the
range of memorabilia displayed around the room or displayed and
to write a memory evoked by that item which is shared at the end of
the day.
Memory Lane Musical Bingo - After tea we would begin a
game of Memory Lane Musical Bingo. Whilst played in the same way as
traditional bingo we replace some of the numbers on the card by names
of artists.. For example, we play a piece of music from the 1940’s to
1960’s and if the title appears on a card, it is crossed off in the
usual way as it had been a number. There is a short break after each
piece of music where guests are encouraged to talk about any memories
that particular piece of music brings to mind. On completion of the
card the winner is the recipient of a typically ‘vintage’ prize. The
facilitators and volunteers encourage guests to 'sing along',
dance, tap their feet and clap their hands in time with the music
throughout the game.
Past times – Memory sharing - the final part of our
day closes by selecting entries from the ‘memory box’ which can be
read out by our guests or ourselves if preferred. We have found
through previous Tea Parties that the memory sharing leads to lots of
laughter and chatting about by-gone years. The duration of the Vintage
Afternoon Teas are a minimum of two hours.
By sponsoring an empty chair you will be supporting some of our guests who expereince loneliness on a daily basis let alone this festive seaaon. Many will spend hour after hour without speaking to anyone over Christmas. Please fill our chairs and the hearts of our guests. Many of our guests have outlived their partner and some have outlived thier children which is not only really sad but a travisty to ignore how lonely some of our neighbours and local residents are.
Help us to make a difference by donating as much or as little as you can, every penny makes a difference to someone.
