Where is Nubs from?
Nubs and her siblings were rescued by CARE Southcoast, a no-kill shelter in MA and her wonderful foster mom, Jodi, shortly after they were born last year. She was born without back legs below the knee, but she didn't let that stop her...
What happened next?
She adapted to her handicap without any difficulties until recently. As a kitten she was able to hop around on her nubs and keep up with her siblings. Now that she has reached nearly full size her weight has put more pressure on her shortened limbs. Unfortunately, this pressure caused her bone to puncture through the skin on her right nub. The only way to save her from massive infection was to undergo emergency surgery to amputate the bone.
Ongoing care
Her surgery was performed by Dr Fish at Tufts VETS. He says she is an excellent candidate for prosthetics because of where her legs end and how easily she has adapted to her disability. She is currently recovering very well, but the cost of her surgery and her prosthetics will be difficult for the shelter to afford.
Your donations will be used toward Ms Nubs surgery, recovery, and prosthetics, and will help CARE continue to help other homeless animals like Ms Nubs.
About Nubs from her foster mom
Nubs is an energetic kitty who keeps up with her sisters in nearly everything they do. Her siblings are very attentive and protective of her. She loves when people hold her and scratch her belly. Her favorite place is a box with all the mismatched socks that sits under my bed. She will squeak at you when she wants something from you or is lonely and wants to be picked up.
She is an inspiration to all that meet her. She has attended multiple sclerosis support meetings and her disability encourages those she meets to continue to try to overcome the challenges they face in their daily struggles. She has changed my life and those of all she meets with her winning personality and her go getter attitude. Nubs is also a certified therapy cat.
Where is Nubs now?
Nubs is going to receive continued care from her foster mom, so she is not available for adoption. Jodi and her family have even built a carpeted area on the side of their stairs to allow Nubs to climb the stairs and keep up with her sisters.
