Rick Brooks hasn't added a story.
Two teams of Holt students representing Washington Woods Middle School and Holt Junior High competed in the recent Michigan Destination Imagination State Tournament. With finishes of first and third place in their respective divisions, both have advanced to the Global Finals tournament to be held at the University of Tennessee.
The teams compete in the structural engineering challenge and must also create a presentation that includes a story about a transformation, design and build props and costumes, study the properties of structure construction materials, and solving on-the-spot challenges at the tournaments.
The team members are:
Washington Woods - Lucas Arend, Gil Page, Diego Cosme, Willow Bigham, and Isabella Cosme-Brooks
Holt Junior High - Hunter LaVigne, Emily Morales, and Iliana Cosme-Brooks
Destination Imagination is an educational program where student teams solve open-ended Challenges and present their solutions at tournaments. In working to solve our Challenges, teams learn important life skills like time management, collaboration, conflict resolution, and creative and critical thinking. Destination Imagination programs are Challenge based, and they teach the creative process. The goal is to help kids learn to be creative in every aspect of their lives.
At the start of the season, teams choose one of seven Challenges. After weeks spent creating and developing their solutions, the participate in a local tournament. Top-scoring teams advance to state or country tournaments. The top level tournament is Global Finals—the world’s largest celebration of creativity.
Destination Imagination programs are developed annually to ensure they are relevant and align to National Education Standards, STEM standards, ELA Common Core Standards and Mathematics Common Core Standards.
