Following a Michigan win in the Destination Imagination structural engineering challenge, we have earned the opportunity to advance to the Global Finals tournament to be held at the University of Tennessee.
The team not only created engineering solutions to the challenge but also presented a story about musical inspiration, designed and built props and costumes, studied the properties of structural construction materials, and solved on-the-spot challenges at the tournaments.
We are very excited about the chance to compete against the best students from many states and countries!
Destination Imagination is an educational program where student teams solve open-ended Challenges and present their solutions at tournaments. In working to solve our Challenges, teams learn important life skills like time management, collaboration, conflict resolution, and creative and critical thinking. Destination Imagination programs are Challenge based, and they teach the creative process. The goal is to help kids learn to be creative in every aspect of their lives.
At the start of the season, teams choose one of seven Challenges. After weeks spent creating and developing their solutions, the participate in a local tournament. Top-scoring teams advance to state or country tournaments. The top level tournament is Global Finals—the world’s largest celebration of creativity.
Destination Imagination programs are developed annually to ensure they are relevant and align to National Education Standards, STEM standards, ELA Common Core Standards and Mathematics Common Core Standards.
