My name is Dwayne, and I’ve spent the last 12 years practicing as a Family Nurse Practitioner, currently serving at the University of Tennessee Medical Center. Over the years, I have walked alongside countless patients and families as they navigate the life-changing reality of a Multiple Sclerosis diagnosis. Being on the front lines of care, I see the quiet struggles that don't always show up on a standard MRI, the fatigue, the cognitive shifts, and the gradual loss of mobility that we now understand as "smoldering" MS.
I am launching this campaign because the way we treat MS is changing, and I want to ensure our community has access to the most advanced care possible. We are learning that even when a patient isn't having active relapses, there can still be an underlying "slow burn" of inflammation that leads to permanent disability. My goal is to pursue specialized neurology certifications and advanced training that focuses specifically on detecting these early signs of progression. This isn't just about professional growth; it’s about having the right tools to intervene before a patient loses their independence.
