Decolonization work needs to move beyond land acknowledgements and into actions. While land acknowledgements are very important, and a legitimate step in the right direction, we as community are practicing how we can do a bit more. We also need to move beyond our personal healing being an end goal as if our personal healing is not directly connected with the collective. When we care for our communities, we are doing self care. When we put effort into addressing the major harms done to indigenous peoples, we are acknowledging we are all in community together. When we share what we can afford to share, we are saying we have faith in each other and hence, ourselves. 

When we give directly back, practice reciprocity, and do work with motivation that is not for financial profit, we are healing our emotional bodies. We are healing collective wounds. We are weaving and experiencing new opportunities for health. 

We cannot wait for government officials to do whats right, to recognize ignored treaties or the extreme atrocities this nation is founded upon. We can simply start to do that for ourselves. Healing always begins within ourselves and in our connections with those most directly surrounding us, our watersheds, and local communities. Monterey, Santa Clara and Santa Cruz counties can do better by teaching more explicitly on the truth of the Spanish Missions. We can make sure more and more lands are protected and given back # landback.
