My name is Eureka Hatcher. I too suffered injustice and oppression growing up in the Tennessee Foster Care System. My career background entails social leadership and medical field. I have over 400 hours of community service involving Agencies such as; DeKalb Neighborhood Leadership Institute, Hands On Atlanta and other local community agencies .
Making Real Changes will transition our hard to serve population with open arms. We will equip transitioning foster care youths and ex offenders. Its time to address the root cause of systematic injustice and restore hope.
Our structured programs will enhance their quality of life; by implementing wrap-around support methods. This population has received bare minimum support that lasts a lifetime. America has crippled them from succeeding beyond an institutional mindset.
Making Real Changes will fight for the voiceless. According to U.S. Department of Education 400,00 children are among our nations Foster Care System. 20,000 of this population age out between age 17-21 without adequate means to attain adulthood.
The Justice Policy Institute conducted a study on non-violent criminals. 1998 was declared the first time America reach beyond 500,000 non-violent criminals. America's non-violent criminals totaled out to 1,185,458. According to the Department of Justice 52.7% were state prison inmates, 73.7% were jail inmates and 87.6% federal inmates were imprisoned for non-violent offenses.
Meanwhile a study conducted by the Pew Center reported Georgia as the 5th highest of the nations prison population. 53,000 currently being held. On a higher note, Georgia 10 million statewide population; leaves 2.6million of this population holding a criminal record. Leaving them vulnerable toward obtaining housing, voting and employment.
