Alchemy Art Center hasn't added a story.
We invite you to participate in Alchemy Art Center's second annual online fundraiser!
Did you know that art changes lives? For years, studies have shown that creative activities and opportunities benefit adults and kids in cognitive ability and problem-solving, social skills, and mental health. As we move into a digital world, physical creativity can connect us more deeply with the world around and within us, and offer insights, focus, and new ways of seeing.
Opportunities for art are limited in our rural community. Alchemy works to ensure that islanders have the relevant and enriching access to the arts, despite our relative geographic isolation. Islanders deserve exposure to fine art concepts and techniques, diverse materials, and professional instruction.
That's where you come in. We cannot offer this alone. More than a third of our financial resources come from people like you. We need your help to offer arts access to as large of a community as possible.
Alchemy is raising $15,000 to support three important programs that put our community first!
Alchemy has three main funding needs this spring: our Youth Mentorship Program, our Tuition Assistance Program, and our Free Summer Programming. You can donate directly to these needs, or you can support them by purchasing one of our amazing items or experiences. These items are only available now, and exclusively to supporters of this fundraiser.
Have you benefitted from Alchemy Art Center? Has a loved one? Have you thought about donating? We are speaking to you. Please show up for us, and help us further our mission.
Additionally, anyone who donates in any amount will be invited to screen print a special limited-edition design on your own shirt at Alchemy, on June 10, to celebrate Alchemy and kick off the summer!
Perks
Goal: $5,000
Alchemy’s youth mentorship program matches young people with professional visiting artists in small-group sessions that foster positive relationships, create confidence, and build specialized art skills. This program is open to middle school and high school age kids and areas of specialty include ceramics, printmaking, and photo darkroom. As well, each cohort is offered the opportunity to show their finished work alongside their mentors - an incredible experience for young artists who are learning to develop and present their work.
The Youth Mentorship Program relies on our larger Artists in Community Program, which invites professional and emerging artists from all over the country to live and work at Alchemy. Although we estimate this program to cost $200 per child, we believe in keeping it free to encourage the greatest diversity of applicants.
Your donation will help Alchemy cover the costs of the 30 mentorship spots we have filled for 2023, plus additional costs that are directly associated with providing housing and studio space for our 12 Artists in Community.
Goal: $5,000
We believe that art programming should be available for all islanders. We strive to offer tuition assistance to any islander who requires it to take a class or be a studio member. This year, we have had more requests for assistance than ever before, primarily for children, single mothers, and young working women.
Our 2023 tuition assistance fund is going quickly- we have already allocated over half our budget, and expect the remaining balance to spend down before the fall. Will you help fill this fund, so that we can pay the experience of art forward to everyone who needs it?
Goal: $5,000
Every summer, Alchemy Art Center brings an exciting roster of free programming to various locations on San Juan Island. You can find us at seasonal repair fairs in partnership at the Grange, painting faces at the San Juan Island Pride Festival, Screen Printing shirts during the Canoe Journey Gathering, and the Lighthouse Festival, facilitating pop-up art activities at the Skate Park, and Village at Friday Harbor, running art workshops at Linde Park, the San Juan Island Sculpture Park, the Farmers Market, the San Juan Summer Arts Fest, the San Juan County Fair, and supporting the in-house programming of Camp Eagle Rock and the Family Resource Center.
In all, we have over 50 free public events planned for this 2023! We are still raising funds for this program- will you chip in to make sure we are able bring inspiration, skills, and arts empowerment to everyone in our community this summer? Your donation will help Alchemy cover the costs of 50+ free events on San Juan Island in 2023, plus additional costs that are directly associated running the Artists in Community Program that this is part of.

Shelle is happy to include the recipe and a jar of sourdough starter if you are particularly ambitious and want to start on your own sourdough journey.
