Lion's Pride hasn't added a story.

Our yearly Direct Appeal Fundraiser is happening now! We are off to an early start in hopes to raise more funds than EVER before to support our amazing school!

What are the funds for?? Our  Lion's Pride Appeal  is a  direct appeal fundraiser  with a very specific purpose:  Raise needed funds to support our yearly LMS Grant Program.

Every year, our PTSA provides a Mini-Grant Program, open to all staff,  to support curriculum, extra-curricular, and arts programming at the school  that fall outside of regular school funding.

Budgets are tight in MCPS  . . .  often there are not funds available   to support certain programs, supplies, or needed extras the staff and students need. That's where we step in!

We hope to raise - and exceed $4,000 dollars to cover this years grant cycle.   The more funds raised the more grants we can fund!  GIVE GENEROUSLY!

2018 Mini-Grants Awarded

YOUR SUPPORT WILL DIRECTLY IMPACT STUDENT'S & OUR LOIEDERMAN COMMUNITY!

See exactly how these funds will be spent and the impact they will have below:

  • Loiederman Community Garden Club  - The funds requested will be used to support the new Loiederman Community Garden Club. Students in this club will be learning many skills: growing fruits and vegetables from seed, how to harvest their produce, healthy and tasty ways to prepare the produce they've grown (they will get to take produce home), and if they have a successful harvest, the hope is to teach students business skills through selling their produce at a local farmer's market one weekend, which would also serve as a fundraiser for their program. These funds will be specifically used to purchase soil to fill the garden beds, pest control products to ensure that they have a successful growing season, and mulch to make paths between the gardens and prevent weeds.
  • 8th Grade End of the Year Activities - The funds allocated will be used to help support costs of materials and services needed for the LMS 8th Grade End of Year Activities. Some of these events will include the 8th Grade Cruise and Promotion. A portion of the funds will be used to provide partial scholarships for the Cruise and used to purchase table decorations, student recognition plaques, and balloons for the Promotion Ceremony.
  • LMS Chamber Orchestra - The LMS Chamber Orchestra was created by Ms. Ashman during the fall of 2015 to support orchestra students who needed more rigor and outside performance opportunities. This group has performed in the community as well as at our school for various functions. These funds will be used to purchase personalized music folders for all current members for their performances in April, May, and June. Additionally, funds will be used to purchase sheet music specifically for this group so that they may further their development as individual musicians and as an ensemble.
  • Robotics Team & STEAM - These funds will be used to purchase a 3-D printer to help inspire students for project based learning and also help the robotics team be more competitive. The design process has significant applications in both math and science and CAD design software often uses both to complete a design.
  • National Geographic Bee -  These funds were used Loiederman's entry fee in the National Geography Bee and for certificates for participants of this years contest. Loiederman has been a participant of this contest for years. Congratulations to  Andre Parker our Geography Bee Champion!  Andre competed in the Maryland state competition in early April.
  • Intermediate Dance Classes - These funds were used to purchase new tap shoes for Loiederman's intermediate dance classes.  Many of the shoes in the classroom supply shared by students were in need of replacement.  Loiederman provides tap shoes for all students because they are very costly and they want to make sure all students have access to this dance form.
  • Reading Readiness - Funds will be used to support the special education departments reading efforts and interventions including books for students who are struggling readers. These books will include current graphic novels, biographies, non-fiction, and some current popular fiction that is specifically written for struggling middle school readers to help cultivate their interest in reading.
  • Loiederman's Sports Teams - Funds will be used to get sports team plaques for this year's teams including Softball, Cross Country, Basketball, and Soccer.
  • ABC Party Activities  - These funds will be used to purchase new items for a variety of ABC Party activities Loiederman's has for students who earned As, Bs, & Cs during the marking period. Loiederman has increased the number of students who have the opportunity to partake in the activities so PBIS need to buy more items!
  • Art and Literature Magazine - The Art and Literature Magazine was produced last year for the first time thanks to the PTSA Grant! This will be the 2018 magazine full of original student artworks and writing. The fund will be used to print the magazine copies.
  • GLOSSY - Growing Leaders Obliterating Stereotypes and Self Hate - GLOSSY was created in 2017 at A. Mario Loiederman Middle School after seeing a need for reform and sisterhood among Science students and their acquaintances. The current group of young ladies consists of 25 Black, African, and Latino seventh grade students. Their mission is to change people's negative views of Black, African and Latino girls by changing the way we view, educate and portray ourselves. Funds will be used to support these confidence building and empowerment efforts.
  • And more!

We need YOUR SUPPORT   to make sure we have the available funds on hand to deliver this year's grants! This is where YOU come in. Nothing to sell, nothing to buy, no volunteer hours . . . just the few minutes it takes to give to our campaign.    Please support our students and staff at Loiedeman: GIVE TODAY!
