The Sons of Scotland Pipe Band hasn't added a story.
The Sons of Scotland were established in Ottawa in 1896, marking 121 years of supporting our community, providing free instruction in pipes and drums to anyone wishing to learn, and representing Ottawa and Canada during our trips. In addition to being loud and colorful, our band's volunteers help us donate 50% of our work to charities in Ottawa and Scotland, and we encourage young people in our city to come out and learn with us. 2017 will see the band travel to both France and Scotland, helping mark Vimy 100 with performances in Normandy, Dieppe, Beaumont-Hamel, Vimy Ridge and Ypres, Belgium for their wonderful evening performance, 'The Last Post Ceremony' the evening of April 9, the 100th anniversary of the Vimy Ridge Battle. We need your help with transportation costs to the different events, and 100% of money raised will go towards these fees.
The band is also asking people to mail in their poppies in before they embark on their trip in April to the office of MP Charlie Angus so that they can bring them to the cemetary in Vimy which was the home of the soldier who lies in the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Ottawa. We want to honour his legacy, and bring some of Canada back to him, and his fellow soldiers. Mailing information is on the Sons of Scotland PB website at www.sospb.com
Our work brings us to countries and cities overseas and with your help, we can make these journeys more affordable and accessible to the wonderful people who donate their time and talent and help the band's success take place. Give today, and be part of our legacy.
It is an honour to play in this band, to bring our music to so many people, and with your support of any amount you wish to give, you can be part of our journey and part of our history. Your kindness, generosity and love of the music help us do what we do, every day. We all thank you, so very much.
