"Left me reconsidering the lessons I've been taught."  San Francisco Globe

Get Lit has had a whirlwind year, traveling to the Library of Congress, Lincoln Center's Women in the World, Brave New Voices, TedxWomen, and countless others.

One poet who has seen a great number of new places and traveled to great heights is Get Lit Player Marquesha Babers. We tell her story to stress the importance of Get Lit and the power to change someone's engage students in their own education and allow them to reclaim their potential and their lives....for only fifty bucks a year.

You heard that right: it costs only $50 to enroll a student in a year-long Get Lit program, and we are only $40,000 from reaching our $600,000 budget by June 30.

Be the change that keeps these programs going & growing.

Get Lit - Words Ignite is a certified 501 (c) 3 organization, and all donations are tax-deductible.

Get Lit – Words Ignite, founded by Diane Luby Lane in 2006, is a nationally recognized organization made to reach at-risk teens, stem dropout rates, and spark dramatically increased literacy among youth in Los Angeles. Fusing the power of classic poetry with the spoken word movement, Get Lit places the greatest poets of our time in dialogue with our youth. Through programs that foster cultural understanding, creative self-expression & performance technique, Get Lit reaches over 20,000 at-risk teens each year who transform their lives, families, and communities through art and social activism. Get Lit builds scholars, not statistics and navigates Los Angeles through this youth-led revolution to let teens reclaim their educations and unearth their potential. #LiteraryRiot!

“The Get Lit Players are changing the landscape of literacy in Los Angeles and providing a model for the rest of the nation.  I want to thank Diane Luby Lane, executive director at Get Lit, her staff, and the teachers and volunteers implementing this program.  Through the power of art, they are transforming the lives of young people and creating a pathway for opportunity."

Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti
