One poet who has seen a great number of new places and traveled to great heights is Get Lit Player Marquesha Babers. We tell her story to stress the importance of Get Lit and the power to change someone's life...to engage students in their own education and allow them to reclaim their potential and their lives....for only fifty bucks a year.
You heard that right: it costs only $50 to enroll a student in a year-long Get Lit program, and we are only $40,000 from reaching our $600,000 budget by June 30.

Get Lit – Words Ignite, founded by Diane Luby Lane in 2006, is a nationally recognized organization made to reach at-risk teens, stem dropout rates, and spark dramatically increased literacy among youth in Los Angeles. Fusing the power of classic poetry with the spoken word movement, Get Lit places the greatest poets of our time in dialogue with our youth. Through programs that foster cultural understanding, creative self-expression & performance technique, Get Lit reaches over 20,000 at-risk teens each year who transform their lives, families, and communities through art and social activism.
