Transitional housing has been a long term need in the Dothan area. There are several resources to help transient men who are homeless and on the street, however there is little to offer women with children in the same situation.
The Harbor House Community Development Corporation mission is to provide safe and comfortable housing for homeless persons during the time that they are working toward becoming self-sufficient. During their stay at Harbor House they will have guidance available to prepare and submit employment applications, resume` building, budgeting, interview skills, cooking skill, parenting, household maintenance and other mentoring during their anticipated 12 to 24 months in the program. Each applicant’s situation will be reviewed to determine if their circumstance fits the criteria established for inclusion in the program. Applicants will be considered without regard to race, sex, national origin or ethnicity; however mothers with small children will be given preference.
Addressing the needs of the homeless is a huge task. To be successful there has to be a joint effort from the entire community. Harbor House will reach out to area communities of faith, civic groups, business organizations and individuals for assistance in accomplishing this task. It is the hope of our organization that one day we can provide housing to support the majority of women with children in our area. Would you consider helping us?
