For years, being gay was treated as something unacceptable in my own family.
I lost access to friends, safety, freedom, and the ability to simply exist as myself. When I eventually made it to Canada, I thought the loneliness would disappear once I was finally safe.
It didn't.
For my first few years here, I still didn't have a single queer friend. I wanted community, but I didn't know where to find it. I wanted to belong, but after years of isolation, trusting people was difficult.
That loneliness is why I built VoxHaven.
VoxHaven exists to make it easier for LGBTQ+ people to find one another, build friendships, share experiences, find support, and feel part of a real community.
VoxHaven is no longer just an idea
We've built and launched an online LGBTQ+ community platform and created structured social experiences in Montréal where people can arrive alone and actually meet one another.
Our LGBTQ+ Speed Friending events are designed differently from traditional mixers. Instead of putting people in a room and hoping they meet someone, we use structured conversation rounds and our own technology to make introductions more intentional and less intimidating.
And we're seeing that it works.
Several of our events have sold out. We've watched people arrive without knowing anyone and leave having exchanged contact information, made plans, and found people they genuinely wanted to see again.
VoxHaven has also been featured on CBC Radio One, and we've had opportunities to connect with Montréal's wider LGBTQ+ community through initiatives such as Fierté Montréal Community Days.
The early evidence is clear: people are looking for better ways to find community.
Now the question isn't whether people want better ways to connect.
It's how far we can take what we've started.
Community should not become something only people with enough disposable income can access
Events cost money to organize.
Technology costs money to operate.
Growing a community requires outreach, partnerships, accessibility initiatives, and the ability to experiment with programming that may not always pay for itself immediately.
If every VoxHaven activity has to generate a profit on its own, it becomes much harder to offer reduced-price tickets, support someone who cannot afford to attend, test new community programming, or invest in initiatives whose impact may take time to grow.
We don't want someone's ability to find community to depend entirely on what they can afford.
That's why we're inviting our community, local businesses, organizations, allies, and partners to help us raise CA$10,000 for the next stage of VoxHaven.

This is not about funding a single event. It is about helping VoxHaven become more accessible, sustainable, and capable of creating more LGBTQ+ connection over time.
Is VoxHaven currently a non-profit?
No. VoxHaven is currently operated by Yazok Inc.
One of the goals of this campaign is to help us explore and develop a dedicated community-focused non-profit structure that could support more accessible programming, subsidized community participation, and new funding opportunities.
We want to approach this carefully and build the structure that best supports the community for the long term.
Are contributions tax deductible?
No. Contributions to this campaign are not currently eligible for charitable tax receipts.
VoxHaven is not a registered charity or other qualified donee. If that changes in the future, we will communicate it clearly, but contributions to this campaign should not be treated as tax-deductible charitable donations.
What happens if the campaign raises more than CA$10,000?
That would be incredible.
Any funds raised above our CA$10,000 goal will support the same mission: making LGBTQ+ connection more accessible and strengthening VoxHaven.
Additional funding could allow us to provide more community-supported event spots, invest further in the platform, develop additional programming, expand outreach, and move more quickly toward testing the VoxHaven model in another community.
We will continue sharing updates so supporters can see how the additional funding is being used.
What happens if the campaign raises less than CA$10,000?
This is a Keep-It-All campaign, so VoxHaven will receive the contributions even if we do not reach the full CA$10,000 goal.
We will prioritize the areas where the available funds can have the greatest immediate impact and scale our plans accordingly.
Every amount helps. Reaching CA$10,000 allows us to do more, but falling short does not mean the support goes to waste.
How will VoxHaven event-ticket perks work?
If your contribution includes a VoxHaven event ticket or event credit, we will contact you with redemption instructions.
Tickets will be valid for eligible future VoxHaven events, subject to availability and the specific conditions listed with your perk. Some special, premium, partner, or limited-capacity events may be excluded unless specifically included in the reward.
We recommend reserving early once you decide which eligible event you would like to attend.
How will merchandise perks be delivered?
Merchandise rewards will be fulfilled through our merchandise partner, Fourthwall.
Eligible supporters will receive instructions by email to select any available options associated with their reward, such as size, and provide their shipping information.
Because items are produced and shipped on demand, delivery times may vary by product and destination. We will keep supporters updated throughout fulfillment.
