Dear Fellow Animal Lover,
Imagine you are a homeless dog who has just been brought into the shelter. You are scared, confused, and incredibly stressed. Shortly after your arrival, you are placed into a kennel where you will spend most of your time until you are hopefully adopted. Spending too much time in a kennel also adds greatly to the immense anxiety a shelter animal already feels. And, because they are feeling quite anxious they often will not express their true, full-of-life personality, thus becoming harder to adopt. . Now imagine you are the same scared dog that has the ability to get a pleasant break each day because you get out for a little play, exploration, or quiet time, and if fortunate, maybe get to spend time with someone who will adopt you. The stress and fear of your new surroundings melts away instantly, and you are now on the fast track to adoption, because of the inviting areas for people to come, visit, and get to know you! Adoption rates can soar as much as 25% when animals can have engaging, safe, outside play areas.
The sad news is that the Tehama County Animal Care Center at 1830 Walnut Street, Red Bluff, CA, is underfunded, and its outside areas are in need of some overdue sprucing up. The good news is, on Saturday, April 8, 2017 P.E.T.S. and other community volunteers during the “Team Up to Clean Up” event will be creating fun, inviting places where staff and volunteers can bring the dogs to frolic and have some much needed exercise.
Big hearts work well together and we need your heart to work with ours to make life a bit better for the animals that are at the shelter. In order to complete some of the projects on the to-do list, we need to raise $1,000. We could use your help to purchase the materials necessary to create an inviting shelter where everyone can come, visit and maybe find a new best furry friend!!! And, to create a place that the community can be immensely proud of, that is enjoyable for both people and animals!
With your assistance we will be able to purchase:
- Bark for the play yards.
- Cement pavers to prevent the dogs from tunneling beneath chain-link fences
- Chain link privacy slats to decrease kennel stress and noise
- Outdoor supplies to facilitate cleaning and to provide enrichment
- Drip systems with automatic timers to allow the planting of low maintenance shrubs and perennials
- Paint to enhance the outside in order to present a more welcoming appearance to the general public
- Stone gravel to give a cleaner, fresher look around the entrance.
