Greetings from all of us here at 350 Tacoma, a local chapter of the international climate movement, 350.org.  

Since our beginning as a small grassroots organization nearly 2 years ago, 350 Tacoma has accomplished a tremendous amount of work on local climate issues. We have organized tirelessly against the proposed fracked Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) facility in the Tacoma tide flats, partnered with regional groups to hold 2018’s Rise For Climate, Justice, and Jobs rally and march to the NW Detention Center, and supported the youth-led Tacoma Youth Climate Strike this past spring, all while being an entirely volunteer-run operation.  

This past May we took a giant leap of faith out of our basements and living rooms and signed a lease on a lovely community space in downtown Tacoma.  We believe that there is room to grow the climate movement in Tacoma and we acknowledge the broad scientific consensus that there is simply no time to waste.  We are thrilled about the endless possibilities this space offers (film screenings! panel discussions! art making events! coalition building!) and to have a home base to continue to grow  the climate movement in the South Sound.  

We understand that the climate crisis is an ethical issue that threatens human rights here in the Salish Sea region.  It has been an honor to serve as a community advocate as we work to mobilize our region’s dissent and action in the face of the climate crisis. 

The scientific community continues to sound the alarm that we are running out of time to avoid catastrophic climate change.  We have responded by stepping up our game and opening this community space.  Yes, this means we now have bills to pay, but it also means that we can work in new, powerful ways to stop the fossil fuel industry from taking over and harming our community.  We remain all volunteer run and are committed to keeping our overhead as low as possible in order to be effective and dynamic in this work.

This is where you come in!  We are raising funds to power this climate movement and any amount you can donate will be put towards keeping the doors of our community space open and providing programming.  Contributions at the $250 and $500 levels will be generously matched dollar for dollar by the Mary E. Nolting Family Foundation.  You can also support us by sharing this fundraiser far and wide, and by becoming a volunteer.

We are facing the climate crisis with hope and a commitment to working boldly for a just, clean, livable future for all of us in Tacoma and the world.
